The Diocese of Eichstätt has launched several investigations into priests, at least in one case related to sexual abuse.
Eichstätt – The abuse scandal continues to have a firm grip on the Catholic Church.
The diocese of Eichstätt has now announced in a press release that it has started investigations against several priests.
However, the information does not reveal what the investigation is about – but at least in one case sexual abuse seems to play a role.
Diocese of Eichstätt determined against several priests - abuse probably plays a role
A spokeswoman for the diocese said on Wednesday, January 11, that for legal reasons it was not possible to comment in more detail on the allegations against the clergy.
In at least one case, however, sexual abuse seems to play a role - because according to the diocese, "at the end of December 2022 the external contact persons informed about suspected incidents".
These contact persons examine possible cases of sexual abuse of minors and persons in need of protection.
The Diocese of Eichstätt employs two contact persons.
According to the information, the accused was released from service, and the information was forwarded to the public prosecutor's office.

In another case, the diocese accepted the resignation of a priest who also came from the district of Ansbach.
A penal order against the man became final in October last year, and church proceedings are still ongoing.
Diocese of Eichstätt: Serious allegations against ex-bishop and further investigations
There is another case against a clergyman from Upper Bavaria.
It is already further advanced - here the Vatican has ordered a church criminal process.
The man has already been released from duty and has been legally sentenced since May 2022.
The former bishop of the diocese of Eichstätt has also been heavily criticized since the fall, after some serious allegations became known.
Alois Brems is said not only to have covered up cases of abuse, he is also said to have helped a perpetrator flee from the police.
Brems is already dead – he died in 1987 after having been bishop of Eichstätt from 1968 to 1983.
