Is winter coming back to Bavaria?
The snow line drops at the start of the week and gives winter fans hope for a white layer.
Munich – Around a week ago, 2022 ended as the warmest year since 1881 in Bavaria.
And the forecasts for the coming weeks made winter fans shudder.
The Weather Channel
's Jan Schenk
even announced that mild temperatures could remain until March without a winter comeback.
In the mountains, the ski areas are already fighting for the season, and some have already had to close again.
It's supposed to snow again at the start of the week.
Snow in Bavaria: At the start of the week, the snow line falls to 600 meters
Many probably didn't expect the current weather forecast from the German Weather Service (DWD) so soon.
Already for Monday night (January 9th) the DWD announces snowfall in the Alps.
"Above about 1000 meters five to ten centimeters, in the high altitudes of the Allgäu Alps around 15 centimeters of fresh snow." During the day it then goes on.
The DWD predicts rain in many places, which comes from the sky "above 800 to 1000 meters" in the form of snow.
Temperatures drop to 3 to 6 degrees.

In the night of Tuesday (January 10), experts near the Alps expect "long-lasting precipitation." The snow line will then drop to around 600 meters.
“Temperature drop to 4 to 0 degrees.
Smoothness in the mountains,” according to the DWD.

DWD warns of black ice and "light snowfall" in Bavaria
The DWD issued some official warnings for Sunday evening and Monday.
On the edge of the Alps, there is a warning of "light snowfall" from Monday, 3 a.m. to 10 a.m.
It will be spread smoothly, the message says.
In the south of Bavaria, there is also a warning about "low Gätte" (Monday night, 0 a.m. to 3 a.m.).
In Lower Bavaria, this warning is valid until Monday morning (6 a.m.).
A level two warning against gusts of wind is also in effect throughout Monday (warning from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.).
Only the districts on the edge of the Alps are affected.
"Storm gusts occur above 1500 meters with speeds between 70 km/h (20 m/s, 38 kn, Bft 8) and 80 km/h".
In “exposed locations” severe gusts of wind around 90 km/h must be expected.
The ski areas that have turned green should be particularly happy about the upcoming winter weather.
