A shot shattered Jawid's (11) femur.

The child from Afghanistan has now been successfully operated on in Nuremberg using an innovative procedure.

Nuremberg – An eleven-year-old boy from Afghanistan has traveled a long way to be able to lead a normal and pain-free life again.

After a gunshot wound in his home country, Jawid underwent surgery at the Martha-Maria Hospital in Nuremberg.

The cost of the operation and the hospital stay were fully covered by Martha-Maria, according to a January 5 press release from the hospital.

Boy from Afghanistan operated in Nuremberg – Complicated gunshot wound

“Jawid had a compound femoral fracture.

As far as we know, the bone was completely shattered by a gunshot wound.

In addition, there was a lot of pus in the bone, he came to us with an open wound," says Professor Dr.

Hans-Dieter Carl, Chief Physician of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at Martha-Maria, quoted.

He had operated on the boy.

Although the injury was initially treated in Afghanistan, it was not enough to heal.

"Jawid had severe pain when walking, and he couldn't put full weight on his leg," reports the chief physician.

Innovative procedure used in surgery - Young Afghan will soon be back with his family

The successful operation took place in Nuremberg shortly before New Year's Eve.

“We operated on Jawid for 90 minutes.

We used a new innovative procedure with a kind of bone substitute material to repair the fracture - the infection should now be gone too, "says Carl.

If everything goes according to plan, the boy could soon return to his family in Afghanistan.

Since 2012, the boy has been one of six patients who have been operated on free of charge by Martha-Maria in Nuremberg.

Hospital managing director Harald Niebler is also pleased with the success of the treatment:

“Our clinic for orthopedics and trauma surgery enjoys an excellent reputation and helps many patients with a wide variety of diagnoses.

It's nice to know that we were able to give little Jawid such a lasting gift with this surgery!” (came)
