Hooded men hurl Molotov cocktails and stones at police officers, barricades burn.

This has nothing to do with saving the climate.

A commentary by Georg Anastasiadis.

A (self-proclaimed) language jury has just chosen the term “climate terrorists” as the nonsense word of the year because it “slanders” and “criminalizes” climate activists and their protests.

That was one day before the evacuation of Lützerath began.

Since yesterday, barricades have been burning in the village ruins that the autonomous community has converted into a fortress, Molotov cocktails are flying and hooded people are throwing stones at the police officers who are doing their job there.

With all due respect, it is not easy to see anything in this other than terror against the rule of law and its representatives, who do nothing else than enforce democratic decisions.

Unfortunately, all of this was to be expected.

The radicalization of the climate movement is progressing.

President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution Haldenwang sees “violent left-wing extremists” at work in Lützerath, who are undermining the climate protest.

It is all the more astonishing that in a public service news program the evening before, the foreseeable riot was connoted with the "rescue of Lützerath";

just as if the village with its long-abandoned houses barricaded by squatters had to be defended against RWE and the police.

Anyone who speaks like this has been taken in by those who interpret brute force as legitimate climate self-defence against the state.

In this respect, Lützerath is only the continuation of a development that began with the trivialization of the supposedly harmless blockades of the "last generation".

In Lützerath it is now the turn of the very last generation.

At the latest she unmasks herself. You can throw Molotov cocktails against unjust regimes - but not against a constitutional state and its democratic decisions, which have come about through complicated procedures and painful compromises.

No one is above the law - not even the radical climate savers who, as an enlightened minority, want to impose their will on the majority.
