Luchon TV Festival: an edition under the sign of renewal

2023-01-11T18:56:46.843Z

The 25th edition of the Festival de Luchon will take place this year from January 31 to February 5, with all sorts of novelties and an even stronger offer than in previous years.

In the list of events dedicated to French television production, the Luchon TV festival holds a special place.

Unlike those of Lille (Séries Mania), Cannes (CannesSéries) or La Rochelle (Festival de la Fiction TV), it is difficult to access – you have to want to trudge, in the middle of winter, until 'at the foot of the Pyrenees -.

With the exception of a few programmes, in particular Catalan or Spanish, it is on the whole very Franco-French.

Finally, taken over in 2021 by the president of the Francophone Union and creator of the Lourdes Youth Screen Festival, Christian Cappe, the event almost never recovered from a management, it seems, complicated, to which added the health crisis.

In fact, and as the

announced its new boss a few months ago: “The Festival can only grow”.

And in fact.

The twenty-fifth edition, which will be held this year from January 31 to February 5, promises to be under the sign of renewal and diversification, as evidenced by the numerous announcements made this Tuesday during the Festival's press conference. .

A “Flow Programs” competition

Among these, the creation of a "Flow Program" competition, which is largely absent from festivals, in partnership with the ACP2F (Alliance for the creation and promotion of French formats).

For the first time since the Golden Seven, the annual high mass that disappeared in 2003, games, entertainment, reality shows and magazines will be rewarded at the end of a high-level competition, held under the aegis of a jury made up of professionals (Julien Degroote, Alexandra Redde, Pierre Guillaume, Stéphane Sallé de Chou, Benjamin Ferel) and chaired by Laurence Boccolini.

The question may arise of the interest of such an initiative, with regard to the slow but sure degradation of this type of emission, those made for the pre-evening grids in particular.

To this, Christian Cappe replies that precisely:

Youth, metaverse and fictions

Other innovations include the creation of a "Screen Youth" competition, chaired by Philippe Alessandri (Watch Next Media,

Bestioles Motel

,

Les Croquemoutard

…), including animated series, magazines, fiction and documentaries.

The holding of the first “Assises de l'audiovisuel” of the Festival, dedicated to streaming programs, metaverse, NFT, video games, education.

Or the final of the "P'tits aces du casting", under the sponsorship of the host and actor Jean-Luc Reichmann.

What arouse the interest of new spectators.

Something to renew that of many audiovisual players.

Something to breathe new life into the event itself.

Fiction and documentaries nevertheless remain at the heart of the festival at the head, this year of rich and varied selections.

On the fiction side, we already remember

I was born at 17

, with Thierry Beccaro in his own role and

after his autobiography (France Télévisions).

But also

Comme mon fils

, an initiatory road movie between a gangster and a child (TF1) and

Le Horla

, Arte's next horrific tale.

The spotlight on documentaries

In total, 9 singles, 6 series, 3 short programs and 4 web series will be presented.

Without forgetting the documentaries, historical (

1933 the fire, when democracy burns

(Arte),

Diary of a good

(France Télévisions)…), societal (

The Extraordinary Brigade

(Gulli),

The revolt of the old

(France Télévisions)… ), international (

Soldiers of Information

(Canal+ Docs)), environmental (

The Last Sentinel

(France Télévisions),

Thomas Pesquet

, objective France

(France Télévisions)…) or cultural (

Maman Chanteuse

(France Televisions)…).

And all the small and large events organized on the sidelines of the Festival, previews, signings and special or last-minute guests, such as director Jean-Jacques Annaud, eagerly awaited by the public.

This anniversary edition of the Luchon TV Festival promises the best.

Next, in the snow.

Well, maybe...
