The police broke up a burglary syndicate yesterday (10th) and arrested 3 middle-aged men in Tsuen Wan District. They were suspected to be related to 8 burglaries of ground shops and residences from December last year to this month, with a total loss of 190,000 yuan.

The mastermind of the group is responsible for coordinating the burglary operations, targeting target locations such as low-rise shops, and then summoning accomplices to break into the shops in the early hours of the morning to raid and steal wallets, cash boxes, telephones, cash and other items that are easier to sell.

As the year approaches, the police appeal to citizens not to store large amounts of cash in shops and residential units, and to purchase anti-theft devices to guard against thieves.

Senior Inspector Deng Jingbin, in charge of the first team of the Tsuen Wan Police District Serious Crime Unit, said that on December 29 last year and on the 3rd of this month, the police received two reports that two ground-floor shops on Dengfa Street and Tai Ho Road were burglarized.

After preliminary investigation, the police found that the two burglaries had similar tactics and belonged to the same burglary group.

The thieves choose to start in the early morning, break into the store, and steal wallets, cash boxes, telephones, cash and other items that are easier to sell.

The police searched the closed-circuit television and identified 3 target men. Yesterday (10th) in Tak Wah Street, Tsuen Wan, they arrested the 34-year-old male mastermind surnamed Li on Tak Wah Street, Tsuen Wan. He reported that he worked as a decoration worker.

The police then arrested a 50-year-old unemployed male accomplice surnamed Xu in a unit on Hebei Street on suspicion of "burglary", "possession of drugs" and "possession of tools for drug use", and seized some stolen goods in the unit, including money suitcase, clothing worn at the time of the crime.

As well as the drug "Smurfs" and smoking paraphernalia.

In the evening of the same day, the police arrested another 40-year-old unemployed man surnamed Huang in a unit in Dahe Road.

All those arrested are being detained for investigation.

The police pointed out that among the three arrested persons, the male mastermind was responsible for coordinating the burglary operation, selecting the target location, and then summoning his accomplices to commit the crime.

The police did not rule out that the man took advantage of his job to inspect the scene in advance.

The police estimated that the group was involved in 8 burglary cases in New Territories South and Kowloon East, with a loss of 190,000 yuan, of which the largest loss was 55,000 yuan.

The first team of the Serious Crime Squad of the Tsuen Wan Police District is currently following up the case and arresting more people will not be ruled out later.

Assistant Chief Inspector Wen Bi of the New Territories South Regional Crime Prevention Office pointed out that most of the burglarized shops only had roller shutters, which were not locked or only had a simple lock.

As the end of the year approaches, the police call on merchants to replace their gates and locks with stronger ones to avoid storing large amounts of cash in their shops.

In residential burglary cases, the thieves all climbed into the low-rise units from the drains in the patio, broke in by breaking through the windows, or followed the residents into the building.

The police reminded the public to be vigilant and beware of thieves.
