What to do if a hazardous substance escapes?
The Echinger fire brigades have trained the correct behavior in an emergency.

– The scenario sounds terrible: an unknown, dangerous substance is leaking from a large company.
Several employees are missing.
The fire brigades have to act quickly – and know what to do.
In order to be prepared for such an emergency, the fire brigades from Eching, Günzenhausen, Dietersheim, Goldach (ABC train) and Attenkirchen (drone group) carried out a dangerous goods exercise last year.

The scenario described above was assumed in a large company in the Echingen industrial park.
After the arrival of the fire brigades at the scene, the situation on site was explored and the accident site sealed off over a large area, and the other forces arriving were also briefed on the situation.
A decontamination route was set up by the NBC platoon, and several people wearing breathing apparatus wearing chemical protection suits also went into the building to take measurements and locate the injured.
The teams deployed quickly rescued the missing employees – they were decontaminated and handed over to the rescue service.
In the further course, the escape of the hazardous substance was stopped by the preceding squads, and all the forces deployed were cleaned again through the decontamination line.
During the ongoing operation, the operation site was explored using a drone.
The images were transmitted to the operations center in real time - another big step into the future.

The people in charge of the company, the members of the district fire inspection and the deployed forces of the fire brigades were highly satisfied with the course and the outcome of the large-scale exercise.
The fire brigades were once again able to demonstrate their clout, even in special situations when - as practiced here - it goes beyond the standard tasks of the fire services.
The exercise object was then examined extensively and the procedure for possible future deployments was discussed.
