Deng died on August 26 of the same year.

The then Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor expressed her sadness, and praised Michelle for her calmness and incomparable strength during her mother's hospitalization: "This case is not a simple matter for the SAR government, and it will not pass."

However, he developed liver failure in early April of the same year and underwent liver transplants twice. On August 26 of the same year, he died in Queen Mary Hospital due to infection and shock. The case was handed over to the Coroner's Court for follow-up, and the court has scheduled an inquest into Deng's death in late February this year.
