After the Corona delay, Moosburg's Schäffler are starting the season again this year.

However, this requires intensive training beforehand.

Moosburg

– Every Tuesday in January, the basis for the coming Schäffler season is laid in the Moosburger Schäfflerhalle to the sounds of "Aba heid is koid".

Of course still in civilian clothes and without spectators, because after a six-year break, the Moosburger Schäffler von 1912 eV first have to practice the exact procedures again under the strict eyes of technical manager Roland “Johnny” Littmann.

Not until the final training session on January 31 will the approximately 30 active players march in with their red jackets, black knickerbockers, red sashes, leather scrapers, white knee-high socks, brogues and green hats with plumes, after which they will cut a fine figure in the official photo.

Then the ten musicians, ten puppets and four committee members will also be there for the first time in performance garb.

Until then, there will still be a lot of sweat in the Schäfflerhalle, as four newcomers to the dance ensemble have already experienced first-hand.

For them, the training had already started in the old calendar year in the fire station.

Otto Heinz junior, Luis Hobmeier, Maximilian Fuchs and Adrian Neumeier were introduced to the basic step of the guild dance that has been performed in Moosburg since 1912 by "Johnny" Littmann, lead dancer Anton Geltinger and some old hands.

"Left - one two three, right - one two three, left - ..." the lead dancer went around in the circle.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Pretty exhausting in the long run

It's not an easy task and in the long run it's also exhausting, as Otto Heinz and Adrian Neumeier found out, both of whom are with the Schäffler for the first time.

Luis and Maxi started the 2017 dance season six years ago as young coopers.

Just like the fifth new addition to the circle of dancers, Florian Brülbeck, who had already taken part in the step training at the time.

After a few practice sessions, the four "novices" also managed to be in sync and keep the beat quite well, so that "Johnny" Littmann invited them with a good feeling to the first "real" training session on January 10th.

Then there is the fine tuning.

Loyal members: Sandra Osterloher will also be back as Kasperl in the coming Schäffler season.

But first there will be a big hello, because some of the dancers and musicians haven't met for several years.

In the practice units, the individual figures, such as arbor, crown or slalom, are then rehearsed.

The basic step has to be right, because the big training sessions are all about precision, distances and visual appearance for the spectators.

Detailed questions such as "Do I turn left or right when removing the large crown?" are also discussed in detail.

The special teams and the staff, as it is called in modern German, also have to train.

"Barrel tapping", "Tire swinging", "Gstanzl singing", "Punch and Punch running through the arbor", removing large tires and preparing to march - everything is rehearsed.

Stress almost like in driving school

Some of those involved have already completed more than 500 dances and routinely complete the program.

The newcomers, on the other hand, have stress, have to keep up and always check where they have to stand, who is in front, where the tires have to go and when the last step will be taken on time.

Almost like in driving school when driving a car with clutches, shifting gears, indicators, rear-view mirror, looking over your shoulder.

But by the end of the 2023 dance season, each of them will have done 60 to 80 dances and will then no longer need any extra step training in 2027.

"We attach particular importance to the general appearance of the group, so that we also offer what people expect from us and what the dance donors pay for," emphasizes Florian Lohmeir - one of three board members of the association, who appears every five years.

In 2022, however, that was not possible due to the corona situation, so the season had to be postponed by a year.

But that didn't lead to a search for new dance donors, says Lohmeir, who is impressed by how many loyal "regular customers" the Schäffler have, some of whom have been letting the group dance for decades and for whom there is no question of being allowed to come back .

"It is also very nice this year that some new dance donors from the surrounding communities such as Gammelsdorf, Nandlstadt or Buch am Erlbach have joined us",

Good to know: The appearances of the Moosburger Schäffler 2023

The schedule of the Moosburger Schäffler includes more than 110 performances from February 3rd.

Then on Friday evening, according to tradition, the first dance will be performed in front of the Moosburg town hall.

On the three following weekends, as well as on Shrove Monday and Shrove Tuesday, the red-robed guild troupe then has their performances, the proceeds of which benefit the sports youth in Moosburg.
