The Bad Wiessee casino found its way back to its old strength after the corona crisis: Despite pandemic-related restrictions in the first quarter, the casino brought in gross gaming revenue (BSE) of 33.5 million euros in 2022.

Remarkable: This is the highest BSE since 2007.

Bad Wiessee

– When casino director Margit Hirsch (55) and her team started 2022, Corona was still everywhere: Guest capacity was limited to 25 percent, strict guidelines such as the 2G-plus rule and a mask requirement.

Poker and French roulette were not allowed to be offered at all.

Only in the spring did the loosening come bit by bit – and with them the guests apparently increased again.

Overall, the Wiesseer Spielbank achieved an impressive result last year: the BSE was 33.5 million euros - compared to the Corona year 2021, this means an increase of almost 135 percent.

At that time, the casino made a little more than 14 million euros.

There was also a whopping increase in visitors: in 2021, due to the corona virus, there were just 58,830 guests who tried their luck in the Casino am Winner, last year there were 127,969 visitors.

That means an increase of 117.52 percent.

Many foreign and particularly wealthy visitors

The director is correspondingly satisfied with the current balance sheet.

"We are very happy with these numbers - and above all that our guests have returned," says Hirsch.

The casino boss can only speculate how it is possible that, despite initial restrictions, even results from pre-Corona times were clearly topped.

It is possible that people would increasingly enjoy their regained freedom, and many foreign and particularly wealthy visitors would also find their way to the casino again.

For comparison: In 2019, when there was still no sign of the corona virus and its consequences in this country, a BSE amounting to 26.3 million euros, much acclaimed by the community, was recorded.

Again at the top of the nine Bavarian casinos

With the result of 2022, the Wiesseer Casino has once again placed itself at the top of the nine Bavarian casinos.

The casino had always been able to maintain this position in the past, with a few exceptions.

Margit Hirsch is relieved "that we survived the pandemic so well".

Personnel problems, as they are currently being complained about in many sectors, are currently limited in the Wiesseer Casino.

"We don't have any needs, but we're already noticing that the application situation is more restrained," describes the director.

In any case, despite Corona, there were no emigrations among the staff at the Wiesseer Casino.

Increases are the trend

With the increase in BSE and visitor numbers, the casino at Tegernsee is in line with the Bavarian trend.

All nine casinos in the Free State together recorded gross gaming revenue of around 106 million euros in 2022.

This means that the general plus compared to the previous year is not quite as clear as in Bad Wiessee, but is still 118 percent.

The statistics also show that a total of 541,142 guests came to the Bavarian casinos last year, compared to 246,573 the year before.

In 2022, Bad Wiessee recorded the highest BSE since 2007. It is still the case that the slot machine game in particular is very popular.

Here there was an income of 28 million euros, the big game with roulette & Co. brought in the remaining 5.5 million euros.

Casino Bad Wiessee is 65 years old

Margit Hirsch, who took over the management of the Wiesseer Spielbank in June 2020 and has since steered the company through turbulent times, is pleased that the restrictions are now a thing of the past and operations can run unhindered.

A number of events are planned for this year in the Winner's Lounge, starting with a Beatles Night on January 26th.

In addition, the casino from Tegernsee celebrates its 65th birthday in June this year.

Hirsch promises that this event will be duly celebrated.
