In the list of nominees for the 2021 Golden Globes there was a name that surprised above all:
Emily in Paris
.
The Netflix comedy, which had not exactly stood out for its praise among critics, slipped into the list of best series of the year and the list of best actresses.
What seemed like one more eccentricity of some awards that had always gone freely ended up becoming one of the triggers for the boycott that the awards suffered the following year, whose edition was not televised nor did it have its usual star-studded gala.
A Los Angeles Times
investigation
revealed that, in addition to the lack of diversity among the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, organizer of the awards, more than 30 associates had traveled to France in 2019 to film the series in a room surrounded by luxuries.
Suspicions of corruption and bribery within the awards were one of the main reasons why the Globes were about to fall.
And a series was the one that revealed it.

In 2023, the awards have returned (that is, they have been rebroadcast on television) with amendment purposes included.
A black and gay presenter, comedian Jerrod Carmichael, was in charge of conducting a gala that has shown his intention to regain favor with Hollywood.
Among the television awards, there was for almost everyone.
Unlike the more conservative Emmys, the Golden Globes have always liked to recognize recent productions, preferably released after the Emmys (in September), and thus be the first to celebrate them.
The pattern has been repeated with some of this year's winners.
For example, in the category of best drama, the Globes have missed the opportunity to do justice by awarding the brilliant ending of
Better Call Saul
,
or the conclusion of
Ozark
, or even being the first to recognize the audacity of
Separation
, at the top of most of the lists of the best of 2022, and has opted for
The House of the Dragon
(HBO Max)
,
thus opening the list of awards for the prequel to
Game of Thrones
, released, indeed, in September of last year.
By the way,
Game of Thrones
never won the Golden Globe for best drama.

Another recent title, the second season of
The White Lotus
(HBO Max)
,
unsurprisingly won best miniseries.
The creation of Mike White, who will compete as a drama at the Emmys, remains here in the categories intended for short or self-contained series, where faces with titles were seen —a
priori
, with fewer options than her to win— such as
Locked up with The Devil, Dahmer, The Dropout
and
Pam & Tommy
.
This time around, supporting actors from miniseries or TV movies (whatever that means in the platform age) had a separate category from supporting actors from TV drama and comedy, which were grouped together.
Jennifer Coolidge, the eccentric Tanya who has continued the first two seasons of
The White Lotus
, also unsurprisingly picked up her award for best supporting actress in a miniseries.
Among the men, the winner was Paul Walter Hauser, who plays a serial killer in
Locked Up with the Devil
(AppleTV+).
The portrayal of another psychopath, Jeffrey Dahmer, has given Evan Peters his first Golden Globe for the hugely popular Netflix series
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

Where to watch the award-winning series?
A review one by one
Abbott College
(on Disney+), almost the sole representative of free-to-air television at these awards (Hilary Swank was also nominated for the ABC channel series
Alaska Daily
), came as the favorite of the night with her five nominations, more than any another series.
And she also left as a great winner by converting three of her candidacies into prizes.
The comedy about the teachers of a public elementary school has been a success with the public and critics in the United States, and in front of other firm candidates for the award, such as
The Bear, Hacks, Only murders in the building
or another phenomenon of the season ,
Wednesday
,
Abbott College
won best comedy.
Of its mostly black cast, Quinta Brunson (also creator of the series) and Tyler Jones Williams received statuettes.

If
Abbott College
is the firm heir to the throne of free-to-air comedy that
Modern Family
has held for years,
Yellowstone
is the great payment phenomenon in America.
With it, screenwriter Taylor Sheridan has built an entire television empire, with various derivative series —one of them starring none other than Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford— and millions of viewers.
Although until now it had been practically ignored by the big prizes, the Golden Globes have broken that trend with the recognition of Kevin Costner for playing the patriarch of a family of ranchers.
Yellowstone
and its derivatives, by the way, are not available in Spain.
The award to Zendaya for the second season of
Euphoria
(HBO Max)
follows the trail that already opened the Emmys of recognition to an actress already turned into a star who this time did not attend the gala and, therefore, could not outshine the rest of the attendees on the red carpet, as is usual for her.
Jeremy Allen White, star of the dramatic and harrowing
The Bear
(on Disney+), which was competing as a comedy, did pick up the award that very deservedly recognized his role as a chef overwhelmed by personal and professional circumstances who deals with grief and anxiety.
Julia Garner with
Ozark
(Netflix) and Amanda Seyfried with
The Dropout
(on Disney+) completed the list of television winners and a cast of awards that they had for almost everyone, but left multi-nominated titles like
Hacks, Separation, Pam & Tommy, Only murders in the building
or
The Crown
.
