Special for Walla! Local, Rafi Sa'ar, Mayor of Kfar Saba: "Less politics, more budgets: after stabilizing the political system, the government must start with an orderly allocation of resources to the government

After 5 difficult election campaigns, political stability was achieved.

Now is the time to act in the field.

We, the mayors, are waiting for resources to implement long-term plans in housing, education and personal security, ones that will improve the future of our children and place the city of Kfar Saba at the top of the cities with the best quality of life, even in the years to come.

This week we were informed that the city of Kfar Saba was once again ranked at the top of the leading cities with the highest level of satisfaction in Israel according to the CBS report. In order to be able to continue to lead in the quality of life, education and housing, we will have to receive the required resources from the new government, to promote long-term plans in housing, education and personal security.

Last month, we were able to transfer to Tel Aviv the 'Kiryat Ha'Tsa'arim' program in the northeast of the city, which includes approximately 4,000 housing units. As part of the program, thousands of apartments at a reduced price and apartments for long-term rent will be allocated to young families. The program is just part of a series of moves that we are promoting in the field of housing and urban renewal in the northeast of the city and in other neighborhoods in the city. This is a victory and a significant step in the fight against the cost of living and in order for it to be implemented in the fastest and most efficient way, we will need a functioning government that will help implement the plan as quickly as possible.

Governmental stability requires an orderly allocation of resources to the local government

Along with the fight against housing prices, the next government must put a lot of emphasis on the education system.

At the end of December, we approved the municipality's budget for 2023, 45% of which was allocated to the field of education in the city and to promoting the future of the children of the city of Kfar Saba.

The largest budget of a municipality in the Sharon region and among the highest in Israel.

Like many mayors, I believe that each authority should decide for itself the contents and educational programs promoted in the schools.

In the city of Kfar Saba we promote an educational vision that seeks to integrate social values such as pluralism, tolerance and personal involvement of the city's students, alongside the deepening of educational innovation.

So it was and so it will remain in the city of Kfar Saba.

Now the government must put its hand in its pocket and give the necessary tools to lead an organized program to reduce the number of students in classes and increase the hours of study in the core areas such as mathematics, English and science in order to close the gap with the OECD countries.

Strengthening national resilience begins with increasing personal security in the authorities

Alongside the challenges in the areas of housing and education, the new government will also have to act to strengthen national resilience and increase governance in Israeli cities.

Last month, we launched a strategic master plan for security in the city, which includes, among other things, the addition of dozens of security cameras and drones throughout the city and in public and educational institutions, along with increased security patrols by the municipal police and supervision.

With the establishment of the new government, we will be able to increase cooperation with the police, who will receive wider resources and an increase in manpower, thus fighting crime and the phenomenon of vehicle theft in the city.

We must remember: the Israeli public had to deal with 5 election systems in 3 and a half years that cost them approximately 15,000,000,000 Shekels and a lot of tension and divisions that endangered the society for short-term goals assigned by the central government. Now a government has been established in Israel with a solid majority for the right-wing bloc. The Israeli public expressed its position and demanded decisiveness and governmental stability, such that it will also be reflected in the local authorities with an orderly plan in education, housing and other issues.

Alongside the many concerns that exist regarding the new government, we must look at the glass as half full and understand that this is an opportunity to promote long-term plans to improve the quality of life of the residents.

Those that will help us keep the city of Kfar Saba at the top of the cities with the best quality of life, even in the years to come.
