The district court in Haifa today (Wednesday) convicted Khaled Jabarin, 31 years old from Umm al-Fahm, for the murder of the singer Shafiq Kabaha in 2013.
Kabaha, a 53-year-old resident of Kfar Kara at the time of his death, was one of the most popular singers in the Arab sector.
Two masked men on a scooter shot him at close range when he was in a car on his way home from a joy hall in Umm al-Fahm where he was performing.
The prosecutor's office demanded at the hearing a mandatory life sentence and another eight months of probation for a crime of violence that the defendant has.
The judges ordered the sentencing arguments to be heard on January 25.
"Kabaha was a symbol of the Arab sector in the world and the triangular region in particular," said a group of Kfar Kara youth for change at the time.
"This is a kind-hearted man who always gave without reckoning, this is a singer whose songs are played at almost every wedding and every event. The news of his death fell on all of us like thunder on a clear day, it hit us all in the face and made it clear to everyone beyond any doubt that we are all threatened and that this could happen to each and every one of us." .
Cabha's murder is solved in a short time.
But since then, the trial has been going on for about nine years, since January 2014, and it has not yet ended.
Meanwhile, back in September 2015, by the decision of Judge Yitzhak Amit in the Supreme Court, Khaled Jabarin was released to house arrest.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder.
One of them, Amal Mahamid, incriminated Jabarin in his confession to the police, where he stated that he was driving the scooter on which Jabarin was riding and shot the deceased.
He also incriminated the third man, Muhammad Mahamid known as "Abu Saad", and stated that together with him he changed the identification plates of the scooter before the murder in the presence of Khaled Jabarin.
He claimed that Jabarin followed the singer with him, then shot him.
The indictment charged Amal Mahamid with crimes of conspiracy to commit a crime, murder, and possessing and carrying a weapon.
Mohammed "Abu Saad" Mahamid was charged with the offense of aiding and abetting murder.
The criminal proceedings of the two were conducted separately and in a January 2017 judgment Amel was convicted of manslaughter and other crimes and the court sentenced him to 14 years in prison.
In the verdict it was determined that Amal drove the scooter and Jabarin shot the deceased;
and that the conditions for convicting Amal of murder, if not manslaughter, were not met.
