The well-known composer Dr. Lam Lok-pui, known as the "Father of Hong Kong New Music", passed away early yesterday (11th) at the age of 96.
The Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Yang Runxiong, expressed deep regret for his passing away today (12th), saying that Lam Lok Pui had pioneered creations in the fields of classical and modern music, made great contributions and inspired many younger generations.

Lam Le Pui, who was born in Macau, came to Hong Kong in 1947 to participate in the formation of the Sino-British Orchestra as a violinist.
Afterwards, he went to Canada for further studies, where he studied film composition and soundtrack under the tutelage of three-time Academy Award winner Rosa Rocha.
After returning to Hong Kong, he worked as a director of cultural and comprehensive programs on Lai TV, and produced classical music programs for Radio Television Hong Kong.
He helped found the Hong Kong Composers and Authors Association, and the Hong Kong Composers' Guild, serving as honorary president.
He also served as the honorary advisor and guest conductor of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, produced music and cultural programs for television and radio, and held teaching posts at the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
He was awarded the CASH Music Achievement Award in 1999 and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2019.
