Deputy Minister of Health Moshe Arbel said today (Thursday) that Minister of Health Aryeh Deri is expected to change the method of receiving medical cannabis and add NIS 100 million to the budget for the medicine basket, which will be NIS 650 million this year.
"Minister Deri agreed with the Minister of Finance that the first pulse of increasing the basket will begin already during the year 2023," Arbel said at the exchange ceremony of the ministry's CEOs.
According to the deputy minister, Deri made a decision according to which there should be a switch to prescriptions instead of licenses for obtaining medical cannabis. "In the first step, all The medical indications that originate from a diagnosed and defined disease, starting with oncology and ending with epilepsy, will be transferred to prescriptions in the coming months," Arbel explained. "Further and depending on the results, we will expand the transition to prescriptions to additional indications."
"This is a step that will affect tens of thousands of people and symbolizes in my eyes the importance of providing a comprehensive answer in one place. Our system is based on the health insurance funds as the management of the treatment, and if we believe that cannabis is a therapeutic means - we need to integrate it in the place where the medicine is given."
added the deputy minister.
"The regulations on the matter will be published in the coming days."
