In the service area of the Germeringer police, there are currently frequent so-called shock calls.

Germering – According to the inspection, citizens receive cell phone messages or calls from fraudsters who pretend to be children or grandchildren and pretend an emergency.

It is usually claimed that you have been arrested because you have run over a person and need money for bail or for medical treatment abroad.

According to the police, if the fraudster is convinced that the deceived person has valuables or cash, an “employee” will organize the pick-up as soon as possible.

The damage sometimes goes up to six-digit sums.

FFB newsletter.)

Up to three cases per day are currently reported to the office on Waldstraße.

However, the police assume that the number of unreported cases is significantly larger.

The reasons vary: on the one hand, many of the people called see through the scam and end the contact.

On the other hand, some victims are ashamed of their behavior after the handover and do not report it.

The telephone fraudsters are highly professional: They have built up a criminal network with complex infrastructures and have earned millions in the past few years.

The police therefore advise: .

Don't let yourself be put under pressure and if in doubt just hang up.

-.

Talk to people close to you about unusual calls.

  • Do not answer the phone if the number is withheld or you do not know it.

Let the caller speak on your answering machine and, if in doubt, call the emergency number 110 to make sure that the call is correct.

  • Do not give any information about financial circumstances on the phone.

You should be suspicious, especially when asking about cash and valuables at home.

  • The police or similar officials will never ask you to hand over cash or valuables over the phone.
