.: After the fatal knife attack on a teacher in the city of Ibbenbüren, much is still unclear.

The investigations continued, said a spokesman for the Münster public prosecutor's office on Wednesday morning.

For the accused - a 17-year-old student - a public defender had been appointed, the public prosecutor said.

The youth has not yet been questioned.

The public prosecutor's office initially did not want to comment on the background to the crime, as reported by the dpa news agency.

The 17-year-old student is said to have stabbed the teacher (55) in a classroom on Tuesday afternoon.

After the act of violence, the 17-year-old himself dialed the emergency number and was arrested without resistance.

"According to previous investigations, the suspect is said to have visited the 55-year-old woman in the school building in the afternoon (2:51 p.m.).

At this point, she is said to have been alone in a classroom.

The accused is said to have attacked and killed his teacher with a knife," the prosecutor's office and the police said in a joint statement.

Why she was there alone and the student apparently knew this was still unclear on Tuesday evening.

The body will be autopsied on Wednesday at the earliest, said a police spokeswoman.

The student then made an emergency call to the police and was arrested without resistance by the arriving emergency services, the police reports.

A homicide commission from the Münster police has started the investigation.

There is no information on a possible motive for the crime.
