Peiting – After the train accident near Peiting Ost station, in which a train with around 50 passengers derailed on Tuesday morning, investigations are underway to determine the cause.
The incident may have been caused by a switch fault.
The train driver has apparently overlooked a corresponding signal.
According to initial findings so far, there was a fault in the points, which was also indicated to the train driver by means of a signal, according to a spokeswoman for the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB).
Because of the poor visibility in sleet and twilight, however, he recognized this too late and drove into the siding.
The train then jumped off the track at the switch.
The inspection of the scene of the accident showed that the switch had not been completely switched.
That means there must have been a disturbance, the spokeswoman said.
According to initial findings, DB Netz and BRB are assuming that the route will be closed for four weeks due to the discarded tracks and destroyed points.
A replacement bus service from Peißenberg to Schongau has been set up.
