The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued an official severe weather warning for heavy continuous rain and squalls.
It rains a lot, especially on the west side of the low mountain ranges.
Severe weather in Germany: Extremely heavy rain in the Harz, Thuringian Forest and Black Forest
In the Harz, Thuringian Forest and Black Forest, up to 40 liters per square meter can be expected in the next 24 hours.
In the Bergisches Land even 50 liters per square meter (storm).
In some regions there is a threat of hurricane-force gusts of up to 110 km/h at higher altitudes, such as on the Feldberg (Baden-Württemberg).
Wind gusts of around 130 km/h are to be expected on the Brocken (Saxony-Anhalt).
But even in the lowlands it is stormy with stiff gusts.

Atlantic low Frederic will bring rain and storms again on Friday
According to the current DWD forecasts, the wind will temporarily decrease on Friday night.
However, with low Frederic on Friday, the weather looks similar again.
According to the weather experts, the wind from southwest to west will pick up again.
Heavy gusts of wind can then be expected again in the mountains and exposed locations.
Heavy gusts of wind up to 100 km/h are possible on the North Sea.
In the north and west there are short sleet thunderstorms with thunder and lightning.
The storm and rain trend will continue through Saturday.
Weather in Germany: Cold front ensures the onset of winter
