The Geretsrieder Main and Finance Committee advocates further funding of the two FSJ positions.

Among other things, they should support the teachers in the classroom.

Geretsried - The two positions for volunteers at the Karl-Lederer- and the Isardamm elementary school are not up for debate for the main and finance committee of the city council.

At its meeting on Tuesday, it decided to continue to support them financially.

However, the funding amount will be lower in the future.

Elementary schools in Geretsried: FSJ volunteers support teachers in the classroom

For about ten years, young adults have had the opportunity to do a voluntary social year (FSJ) at one of the two elementary schools.

"They are employed by the youth and social work association," explained Kerstin Pratzel from the Family, Social Affairs and Sport department.

The sponsor used to be the Munich Evangelical Youth, but the project has recently been run by the Miesbach District Youth Council.

According to Pratzel, the FSJ workers support the teachers in the classroom, encourage and look after underperforming or socially disadvantaged children.

In addition, they help with lunchtime supervision, help with homework supervision and accompany excursions and school trips.

During the school holidays, the FSJler work with the sponsoring association.

So far, the city has spent around 27,000 euros a year on funding.

However, administrative costs and costs for educational support were included, which are not eligible.

"In the future, the eligible costs should be made up of the personnel costs of the volunteers, the social security contributions, the contribution to the trade association, the flat rate for food and accommodation and the seminar costs," says the town hall employee.

That would be 750 euros per person and month, i.e. 18,000 euros.

For the current school year, you benefit from corona funding and only pay 50 euros per person per year.

FSJ positions in Geretsried - "Young people make it easier to connect with students"

Sabine Lorenz (CSU) advocated staying with the previous funding amount.

"FSJ is a great story," she emphasized.

As far as she knows, the elementary schools are “totally enthusiastic”.

No higher costs should arise for the sponsoring association.

Lorenz: "We have to be happy that he looks after the FSJ positions."

Volker Reeh (Geretsrieder Liste) also called the forces "very important for all schools".

These would now have to take on a considerable part of social tasks.

"Young people in particular make it easier to connect with the students," says the city council.

Martina Raschke (Greens) followed.

However, one should seize the opportunity to lower the costs and save the money for other areas of youth work.

"Everyone has to help so that we can manage the budget for the next few years," says Raschke.

As a compromise, Mayor Michael Müller (CSU) suggested only funding the proposed posts.

If other costs are incurred in addition, one could check their reimbursement via the administrative channel.

The board followed unanimously.
