The communities are looking for accommodation for the many refugees who arrive in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen.

In Dietramszell, the indoor pool is being discussed.

Dietramszell – The Ascholdinger indoor pool has not been in operation for a good year.

Now the 50-year-old swimming pool could find a new purpose as refugee accommodation.

In its meeting on Tuesday, the municipal council decided to offer the pool to the district office as a property for this purpose.

Refugees arrive: Ascholdinger indoor pool is checked as accommodation

The background is a renewed appeal by the district administrator to the mayors to report land and buildings for the accommodation of refugees and asylum seekers - as reported, around 50 asylum seekers are assigned to the district every 14 days.

Whether the closed swimming pool is suitable for this has yet to be clarified, stressed Mayor Josef Hauser.

This was already up for discussion in 2015, during the first wave of refugees.

"In any case, the pool would have to be structurally closed in such a way that an even surface is created in the hall," explained Hauser.

He doubts whether the decrepit heating system is sufficient to make the extensively glazed building livable in winter.

In addition, the hall can be seen from two sides and heats up considerably in summer.

The necessary change of use could also result in problems with fire protection and the statics of the roof.

This can be checked as well as the necessary conversion at the expense of the district.

Indoor swimming pool Ascholding is checked for refugees - old soccer field is also an option

From Hauser's point of view, however, other municipal buildings or plots of land are even less suitable than the indoor pool.

In principle, according to the municipal administration, both the parking lot behind the old school in Baiernrain and the old soccer field in Linden would be suitable for building temporary accommodation there.

Both areas are owned by the municipality and could be developed relatively easily.

In Baiernrain, however, according to Hauser, one must assume that the construction of a container housing complex would have "massive effects" on the operation of the neighboring restaurant.

In Linden, the area in question is currently not usable due to the new construction of the Schützenheim.

In addition, there are no shops for daily needs in Linden and Baiernrain,

Refugees in the monastery?

This is not possible in Dietramszell

Refugee accommodation is also not possible in the monastery.

"The premises, which belong to the sisters themselves, are all occupied by the Montessori school and the kindergarten," explained the mayor.

The free parts of the building are owned by the Free State of Bavaria and may only be used for the cloister for church law reasons.

The use of the parish homes in Dietramszell and Ascholding is theoretically possible, he quoted Dean Thomas Neuberger as saying.

He suggested it to the district office a few months ago as an accommodation option – but received no response.

This may be due to the lack of washing facilities.

The head of the town hall ruled out using the gymnasium of the elementary and middle school as accommodation for refugees.

Since it is integrated into the overall building, access is only possible via the school grounds.

"That's not feasible with hundreds of students." In addition, the windows and roof are leaking;

The renovation is scheduled to begin in the spring.

Kindergarten in Ascholding is empty - will it be used as refugee accommodation?

The former kindergarten in Ascholding is currently empty.

It, too, is to be renovated this year and converted into living space, for which the municipality intends to make use of subsidies.

Due to structural investigations, there is some damage to the floor and ceiling.

According to Hauser, the heating oil tanks have already been removed and the heating is only operated in a makeshift manner via smaller barrels.

Nevertheless, Ludwig Gröbmaier (CSU) said: "The old kindergarten is probably easier to prepare than the indoor pool."

Hubert Kanzler (FW) advocated that the community should "keep your feet still for the time being".

As Hauser confirmed, there were no consequences as yet.

Bernhard Fuchs (FW), on the other hand, appealed to the council members' sense of responsibility: "We have to show the flag and not just hope that the cup will pass us by."

With a large majority, the committee spoke out in favor of having the district office check whether the indoor pool is suitable as refugee accommodation.

In addition, citizens are to be called upon to report private housing opportunities in the municipal newspaper.

Gröbmaier's proposal to also offer the old kindergarten in Ascholding was rejected.
