Israel Prize winner architect Dan Eitan passed away at the age of 91 Israel today

The architect Dan Eitan, winner of the 2019 Israel Prize for Architecture, passed away at the age of 91.

Eitan was born in Kibbutz Ein Shemer and later his family moved to the central area.

Eitan studied sculpture at the Avni Institute as well as architectural studies at the Technion in 1955.

After his studies, he worked for six months in an architectural office in Finland and returned to Israel to open his own independent office.

Between 1978 and 2010, he was a partner of the architect Ari Goshen.

Among the iconic buildings he designed: the array of civil services and public buildings in Kirya for Nuclear Research, Dimona, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Beit Ha'am, in Givat Haim Ihud, the Mexico Building, at Tel Aviv University, Clal Center, in Jerusalem, the National Headquarters building of the Israel Police, and the City Tower , Jerusalem.

Eitan served as chairman of the national committee of the Association of Architects and the United Architects Association (1986-1988), was a member of the steering team for the establishment of the Azrieli School of Architecture at Tel Aviv University (1993) and a member of the international inspection committee of the Faculty of Architecture at the Technion (1997).

Eitan married the writer Rachel Eitan.

The two have a son and a daughter together.

In 1964, Eitan met the poet Rena Shani.

Eitan and Shani lived together and had a daughter named Tamar.

In 1981, Eitan had a daughter named Eli from his then-partner, Mimi Bilo.

In recent years Eitan lived in Herzliya Pituach with his partner Ruth Lahav.

He left behind four children, seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
