After Minister Ben Gabir demanded that a tougher hand be used against protesters, and at the end of a situational assessment in which the police expressed fear of disturbances in demonstrations against the government, the chairman of the opposition called on the Commissioner to make sure that excessive force is not used against the protesters. "They are the greatest lovers of the State of Israel and that is how they should be treated"

Opposition Chairman Yair Lapid called on Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai this evening (Thursday) not to use excessive force during the demonstration against the government, which is expected to be held this Saturday.

"These protesters are the greatest lovers of the State of Israel and should be treated as such," wrote Lapid to Shabtai.

"I expect you to instruct the police to treat the demonstrators with respect and do everything to allow them to express a legitimate protest."

The chairman of the opposition also added that "the role of the Israel Police is to protect them, not to 'prepare for them', not to use subterfuges, to make sure that excessive force is not used against them while they are fulfilling their civic duty. Your role is to make sure that the police are not political, and do not stand There is only one party at the disposal of the political system, even if that party is now in power."

Earlier today, the police warned that there is a "fear of disorder" in the expected demonstrations on Saturday against the government and the legal plan it is promoting.

This is after a situation assessment discussion with Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gabir, who demanded this week that the police use a tougher hand against the protesters.

The police said that they would "ensure the existence of the protest" and that "it is the right of every citizen to express his position, a basic right of every person in a democratic country", but at the same time the intelligence picture raised a fear of disturbances.

It was also reported that "in order to be able to ensure public peace and the full existence of the protest, the police are here and call on the organizers of the protest and the participants to maintain order and allow the protests to exist according to the law."

According to her, her forces will be deployed in order to allow the freedom of protest for all citizens and to maintain public safety and public order.

"The police once again emphasize that they are working to allow the existence of protests for all demonstrators, but they will not allow any violation of public order and will not allow the use of Nazi symbols. The Israel Police will act against any attempt to violate public order or harm the proper existence of protests according to the law." stated in the police statement.
