Damascus countryside - SANA
So far, the areas cultivated with wheat in the governorate of Damascus countryside have reached 14,029 hectares, while the area cultivated with barley has reached 7,609 hectares, while the area cultivated with winter vegetables has reached 18,947 hectares.
The Director of Agriculture in Rif Dimashq, Eng. Irfan Ziyadah, stated in a statement to SANA reporter that the farmers in the province focus on cultivating irrigated wheat, as the cultivated area of it reached 12,642 hectares out of the original plan of 14,686 hectares, with an implementation rate of 86 percent so far, while the area cultivated with rainfed wheat amounted to 1,387 hectares. Out of the plan, which amounts to 2,569 hectares, with an implementation rate of 54 percent, and its cultivation is concentrated in the regions of Qatana, Harran Al-Awameed, Douma, Al-Kiswah, Al-Ghouta, Al-Harmoun, and Daraya.
With regard to barley cultivation, Ziyadah pointed out that the total area cultivated with irrigated barley is 1,373 hectares out of the original plan of 2,978 hectares, with an implementation rate of 46 percent so far. Al-Kiswah, Yabrud, Al-Tal, Al-Qutifa, Qatana, and Al-Nabk areas.
Ziada explained that winter vegetables vary between peas, beans, cabbage, spinach, onions, lettuce and garlic, noting that farmers continue to cultivate according to the plan of 83,605 hectares, noting that the amounts of rain that have fallen to date are promising, and have helped farmers implement the plan for all crops.
