2023-01-12T09:02:11.215Z

The Tax Authority announced: an extension will be given for filing objections to the debt and the payments will be spread over 12 months • The foreclosures will be stopped for two months • Gafni: "I'm glad that our demands were met"

Breathing a sigh of relief:

following the stormy debate in the Finance Committee this week and the request of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, the Tax Authority will allow businesses and taxpayers who received corona grants, who are required to return the grants and have not yet settled the payment, to submit reasoned objections to the charge until February 28, 2023.

This, following inquiries from dealers and taxpayers who claim that the charge made by them as part of the voluntary move was made by mistake, and they want to obtain it, but the deadline for submitting the obtainment has passed.

In addition, the tax authority will allow this population to settle the debt in 12 interest-free payments.

In cases where a longer deployment is required as a result of financial difficulties or special circumstances of the applicant, it will be possible to contact the assessment office where the case is handled and request a longer deployment that will be examined individually.

In order to arrange the distribution of payments, you can contact the assessment office where the case is handled or submit the request for the distribution by online means in the online customer inquiries system.

In order to allow dealers to spread payments and/or submit objections to the demand for the return of grants, the Tax Authority will freeze the foreclosures imposed on dealers and taxpayers for a fixed period of two months (until March 11).

As you remember, during the Corona crisis, the Tax Authority paid grants to the self-employed and those with control in several routes.

In light of the need to quickly transfer the payments to a very large number of business owners, the grants were sometimes paid even before the relevant VAT reports were submitted, and therefore the payments were made based on the applicants' statement regarding their compliance with the eligibility conditions. The inspections conducted by the Tax Authority revealed that there are many business owners who requested and received grants who are not entitled to them.

The Chairman of the Finance Committee MK Moshe Gafni said in response: "I am glad that the Tax Authority responded to our demand, since it is a serious plight of the self-employed who are required to return the grant money. In agreement with Finance Minister Smotrich who participated in the committee's discussion and the Tax Authority - the foreclosures will be frozen in two months and the distribution of payments It will be for 12 months."

Yoram Moalami, chairman of the new independents," said: "Congratulations to the chairman of the Finance Committee Gafni who was attentive to the issue and understood that the foreclosures imposed on the independents must be stopped.

Besides the fact that some of them are illegal, these foreclosures may collapse families, some of whom are also having a lot of financial difficulties.

We will continue to be in contact with the chairman in order to keep updating them on the matter."
