Overseas deputies from various left-wing and independent groups have come together in a collective to "

finally be heard

" on the difficulties of their territories in terms of health and cost of living, they announced this Thursday, January 12 at the National Assembly. .

These elected officials from the ranks of the GDR (mostly communist), LFI, socialist and independent group Liot have just returned from a work seminar in Guyana where they worked on the difficulties common to their territories.

"Hunting in packs"

They are indignant at the "

systemic underdevelopment

" of the Overseas Territories and are asking Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne for an "

emergency

" meeting, underlined Guyanese elected representative Davy Rimane (GDR), surrounded by a dozen of colleagues during a press briefing.

The collective was born from the "

night of November 24

" in the National Assembly, when the majority had obstructed to prevent going to the end of the examination of an LFI text aimed at reintegrating unvaccinated caregivers against Covid-19.

The tone had risen in the hemicycle and several overseas elected officials had castigated the attitude of the majority.

After this episode, these deputies from different overseas territories decided to come together, in order to "

hunt in packs

" and better make their demands heard to fight against the high cost of living and medical deserts, indicated the LFI Jean- Hugues Ratenon, MP for Reunion.

“We want to be heard and listened to”

It's a paradigm shift.

We don't want to pretend to talk anymore.

We want to be heard and listened

to,” demanded Moetai Brotherson (GDR), deputy for Polynesia and president of the Overseas delegation to the National Assembly.

After the seminar in Guyana, this collective "

of the territories of 97

" (the Insee codification of the overseas territories) intends to meet in Reunion in mid-2023 to continue its actions.

Several elected officials denounced the state's "

contempt

" for their territories.

"

We are full citizens

," insisted Karine Lebon (Reunion), of the GDR group.

The Guadeloupian Christian Baptiste, related socialist, called for a "

decoloniality

" to "

get out of this vertical relationship

" between State and overseas territories.
