SURVEY - A small majority (52%) say they are opposed to the government's text, according to our latest Odoxa Backbone consulting survey for Le Figaro.

It is neither a frank opposition, nor an assumed support.

According to our latest Odoxa Backbone consulting survey carried out for

Le Figaro

, the pension reform presented by Élisabeth Borne is divisive.

A majority of French people say they are certainly opposed to this text, but this is limited: it concerns only 52% of those polled - and the majority are 50-64 years old, closer to retirement.

For the others, 29% say they are in favor of it, and 18%, especially among young people, do not consider themselves sufficiently informed to express an opinion.

From a political point of view, it is unsurprisingly on the side of Renaissance sympathizers (71%) that approval is the most important.

Republican supporters support the text to a lesser extent, with 49% of "for".

Retired people are also much more in favor of the reform than working people (46% - 24%) and executives are more so than blue-collar workers (41% against 17%).

Support for demonstrations

In detail, it is the postponement of the legal age which crystallizes the tensions, with an opposition of 62% of the French.

Here again, the most refractory are on the side of the active and more particularly the workers.

"

But the decline in age being accompanied by various measures of a social order, the opposition tends to attenuate

", underlines the director general of Odoxa, Céline Bracq.

Thus since June 2022, it has reduced by five points.

Some parts of the reform are also more consensual.

Increasing the minimum pension to €1,200 and taking into account people who have had “long careers” receives, for example, the approval of 83% of respondents.

This particularly appeals to retirees (91%), whose pension should for some be upgraded, but also to sympathizers of all stripes.

These few points granted to the government do not prevent the French from supporting, for a majority of them (65%), the first movement announced for January 19.

"

For the moment, popular support is strong but much less than at the start of the 'yellow vests' and a little less than for the previous reform which had finally aborted in December 2019

", underlines Céline Bracq.
