Poll: at the dawn of the pension reform, Macron and Borne are not popular

2023-01-12T10:14:29.051Z

FIGARO MAGAZINE BAROMETER - The popularity of the President of the Republic remains stable at a low level.

For Emmanuel Macron, the year 2023 begins as the year 2022 ended: his confidence rating is stagnating at a low level.

Carried out before Elisabeth Borne's announcements on Tuesday on pension reform, the Kantar Public barometer shows that the President of the Republic is unable to broaden his base.

Of course, he retains his base (91% of Renaissance sympathizers and part of the Republicans, 42%).

But he struggles to convince beyond that.

Worse, the retirees, who made up the large battalions of his supporters, are no longer as numerous.

In April 2022, they were still 51% to place their trust in him.

Ten months later, they are only 39%.

The same goes for executives (56 to 41%) and those aged 65 and over (52 to 37%).

In this context, will Emmanuel Macron be able to pass his pension reform?

He can hardly count on his prime minister whose popularity is at an all-time low.

Elisabeth Borne is even the least popular head of government, eight months after taking office.

If the agreement with the LR allows to be relatively serene in Parliament, it is in the street that everything will be played.

The year 2023 starts well for the former prime minister, still at the top of the barometer.

If right-wing sympathizers support it (64%, +10), it is also progressing on the left (43%, +2).

With these voters, Édouard Philippe is even ahead of the leaders of Nupes.

Outside the government, a recourse?

The Minister of the Economy climbs to second place in the barometer and retains his place as the first government minister in the ranking.

Please the right (50%, +5), the left also seems to appreciate it: 36% (+6) trust it at the start of the year.
