Prince Harry broke a record with his explosive memoir, "Spare," after the English-language version sold more than 1.4 million copies on its first day of publication.
The extraordinary sales included all formats of the book (paper, audio and electronic) in the US, Canada and the United Kingdom, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the publisher Penguin Random House.
"Spare's first full-day sales already represents the highest first-day sales total for any nonfiction book ever published by Penguin Random House, the world's largest trade publisher," the publisher said in the text.
Harry's 410-page memoir officially went on sale Tuesday, with some shops in London opening at midnight in anticipation of high demand.
Days before, copies of the Spanish version were published, generating a whirlwind of headlines and revelations in the media around the world.

didn't stop those eagerly awaiting its release from going for the book, as the publisher revealed.

Random House also said that the first US printing of Harry's memoir was two million copies and that the book has now "returned to press to make additional copies to meet demand."
The publisher had promised "raw, unwavering honesty" from the prince, who narrated the unabridged audio version of the book.
"Spare" went on sale in 16 languages around the world.
