Prince Harry's memoir 'Spare' breaks sales record

Prince Harry broke a record with his explosive memoir, "Spare," after the English-language version sold more than 1.4 million copies on its first day of publication.

The extraordinary sales included all formats of the book (paper, audio and electronic) in the US, Canada and the United Kingdom, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the publisher Penguin Random House.

"Spare's first full-day sales already represents the highest first-day sales total for any nonfiction book ever published by Penguin Random House, the world's largest trade publisher," the publisher said in the text.

Harry's 410-page memoir officially went on sale Tuesday, with some shops in London opening at midnight in anticipation of high demand.
