Le Figaro Nantes
We will have to tighten a little more for passengers taking the railway line between Rennes and Châteaubriant.
For a fortnight, from January 11 to 27, the capacity of certain trains will be reduced, as confirmed in
Figaro
by the Breton branch of the SNCF.
The number of trains put into circulation will be lower there.
“We are going to redeploy them to other lines
,” explains the SNCF.
Every day, several trains will be impacted by this decision.

Why was such a step taken?
“In November and December, there were 52 collisions with animals
,” answers Magalie Nauleau, press officer at SNCF Bretagne.
This figure is much higher than those for the same period in previous years: there were 14 in 2019, then 24 in 2020 and 36 in 2021. To this is added the recent collision between a train and a car at a Railroad Crossing.
6200€ of damage on average
Consequence: many trains are damaged or blocked during a safety inspection.
“Each impacted train must be cleaned of blood and hair and undergo a thorough check
,” she adds.
On average, the damage from a collision with an animal is estimated at €6,200 according to the SNCF.
Another problem: the company is struggling to repair these trains.
"We are experiencing delays in our supply times for certain spare parts",
explains Magalie Nauleau.
The decision was therefore taken to reduce the sail area on certain trains.
It is not just the Rennes-Châteaubriant line that is affected.
In Brittany, those linking Rennes to Saint-Malo or Dinan are also seeing their transport capacity reduced.
Rather understanding travelers
According to the SNCF, these
"temporary adaptations"
only affect
"2% of rail traffic in Brittany"
.
To inform passengers, specific communication has been put in place.
“We have been very well informed by BreizhGo which unfortunately cannot do much against this phenomenon which is national”
, abounds with Le
Figaro
, Philippe Rajalu, the president of the Citizen Association Châteaubriant Rennes en train (ACCRET).

“We are disappointed by the lack of comfort that this will cause for users. There is dissatisfaction but we feel that the problem is taken head-on by the SNCF, ”
he tempers.
Philippe Rajalu also notes that one of the members of the association made a journey in a train impacted by the reduction of trains and that
“overall it went well”
