A study revealed that the world's oceans were hotter on record last year, demonstrating the profound and sweeping changes that human emissions have made to the planet's climate.

The British Guardian newspaper quoted a study conducted by a group of scientists at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, USA, on ocean temperature, as saying: “The earth's energy and water cycle has changed dramatically due to the emission of greenhouse gases as a result of human activities, which led to large-scale changes in the climate system.” Earth".

Professor John Abraham, co-author of the study, considered that “measuring the oceans is the most accurate way to determine the extent of the imbalance of our planet at a time when the weather is becoming more severe due to the warming of the oceans.”

Research released by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration showed that many extreme weather events in 2022 have become more severe, due to the climate crisis, such as heavy rains that caused devastating floods in Chad, Niger and Nigeria.

More than 90 percent of the excess heat trapped by greenhouse gas emissions is absorbed into the oceans, and records beginning in 1958 show a significant rise in ocean temperature, with warming accelerating after 1990.

It is known that sea surface temperatures greatly affect the weather in the world, and hotter oceans help to increase the intensity of extreme weather, which leads to more hurricanes and moisture in the air, causing heavy rains and floods.

It is worth noting that the ocean temperature is less affected by natural climate variability than the atmospheric temperature, which makes the oceans an undeniable indicator of global warming.
