It is often small help that makes a big difference: Thanks to the Red Cross in Erding, retiree Maria S. (name changed) has found financial strength again after a stroke of fate.

Erding – A stroke of fate, a serious illness, unemployment: there are many reasons why people get into trouble through no fault of their own.

Helping you is at the heart of our Light in Hearts readers' resource.

We not only support individuals, but also clubs and associations that are socially committed in a variety of ways.

The story of Maria S. (name changed) shows how important and successful this commitment is.

The woman from Erding is a pensioner in her mid-60s. With the manageable financial means, she managed to make ends meet quite well, also because she could rely on her partner.

But suddenly the rug was pulled out from under her feet: her partner suffered a heart attack and died suddenly.

From now on, Maria S. was all alone.

She has no children, no relatives, just a few friends.

In addition to the grief and the shock she has to deal with, there were great financial worries.

Because for various reasons through no fault of her own, she falls through the social safety net.

The BRK in Erding was able to catch something.

In order to escape social loneliness a little, the district association invited Maria S. to the narrative café, which takes place once a month, reports BRK spokeswoman Danuta Pfanzelt.

The series of events is free for all participants.

In addition, Maria S. got food delivered for free for a few months.

She also took part in breakfast and lunch together, which took place weekly in the meeting place on the Rätschenbach.

This offer is free for the needy - also thanks to the donations from "Licht in die Herzen".

“Others who take part because they want company pay a fee,” emphasizes Pfanzelt.

Maria S. enjoyed the events very much and felt so well looked after and accepted that she is now volunteering at the BRK.

"Because the district association not only has blue lights, but also a lot of welfare and social work," emphasizes Pfanzelt.

Maria S. is energetic and wants to give something back to other people.

In the meantime, she has gotten herself up financially enough to be able to stand on her own two feet again – albeit not in leaps and bounds.

Light in the heart: The readers' aid organization of the Erdinger/Dorfener Anzeiger supports the work of the BRK Erding and citizens in the district who are in need through no fault of their own.

Donations can be made to the account (number 17 111) at Sparkasse Erding.

Account holder: Zeitungsverlag Oberbayern.
