Prince Harry's memoir "Spare" reports on the extent of the tragedy surrounding Princess Diana's untimely death.

The sad hope of the abandoned child speaks volumes.

For a long time, Lady Di's second son believed that his mother only faked her death to avoid the press.

Montecito – Prince Harry (38) was just 12 years old when his mother Diana (36, † 1997) died in a tragic car accident in a Paris tunnel.

In "Spare" he admits that he spent the following decades trying to figure out what really happened that fateful night.

For a long time, as the Duke of Sussex reports in his recently published memoirs, he believed that Diana only staged her own death to escape the press.

Prince Harry was convinced Diana was fooling the press

Father Charles (74) had the terrible task of telling his sons about their mother's death.

Queen Elizabeth II (96, † 2022) took the scepter in hand and sealed off the young princes from the public to protect them.

Both were on Balmoral in Scotland with their grandparents, the Queen and Prince Consort Prince Philip (99, † 2001) when Diana died.

Harry reveals,

"Having nothing to do but roam the castle and talk to myself, a suspicion set in, which then became a firm belief.

It was all just a trick."

"For once, the trick was not played by the people around me or the press, but by Mummy.

Her life was miserable, she was hunted, harassed, lied to, betrayed.

So she staged an accident as a distraction and ran away,” Harry told himself.

The truth was different: Diana's car crashed into the walls of the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, killing her boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed (42) and her chauffeur Henri Paul (41).

The sole survivor was Diana's bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, 54.

Prince Harry admits he still questions Princess Diana's 'unexplained' death

Although Prince William and Prince Harry had many questions after their journey through Diana's death tunnel, they were dissuaded from calling for the inquest into the Princess' death to be reopened.

In an ITV interview, in which he also discussed Diana's death, the Duke of Sussex, Tom Bradby, 55, said on the occasion of his recently published memoir 'Spare': 'There are many things that remain unclear'.

However, Harry clarified that he "didn't really see the point" in opening a further investigation.

He spent years trying to shed light on the darkness.

Harry told Bradby that when he looked at the police files, he remembered seeing paparazzi in the window taking pictures when Diana was dying instead of helping her.

"I couldn't fathom [her death]," he admitted.

Harry kept his belief in Diana's survival to himself for fear of being thought insane

Harry writes that he and Prince William, 40, were dating Diana when they first met Fayed weeks before her death in St Tropez.

He remembers Fayed giving Diana a diamond bracelet.

He also relates that after his mother's death, he was asked at school to write a suicide note to her: "I have a vague recollection of wanting to protest that she was alive, but didn't because I was afraid they would think I was crazy.

Ten years later, Harry writes, he drove with his brother, Prince William, to Diana's accident site to relive their mother's final moments.

He asked a secretary to see secret police files about Diana's collision.

The accident photos left him speechless: "There were lights around them, auras, almost halos," he writes.

"When I realized their true origins, my stomach clenched.

flashes.

It was [paparazzi photos] flashing lights." He makes it clear how angry he is at the paparazzi for neglecting to help her, adding, "Until that moment, I wasn't aware that the last thing Mommy saw on this earth was a flash.”
