"It's a historic moment": in Strasbourg, the return of the missing parchment

STORY - Disappeared during the Revolution, then found in Paris, the 1419 drawing of the spire of the cathedral has joined the collections of the Œuvre Notre-Dame.

It took four years of negotiations for the priceless drawing of the spire of the cathedral, dated around 1419, recognized as a “national treasure”, to join the collections of the Museums of Strasbourg.

Among which, the unique set of medieval drawings related to the construction of the cathedral preserved for seven centuries by the Fondation de l'Œuvre Notre-Dame.

“It is a historic moment.

This parchment is back at home, where it was kept when Goethe copied it in 1770"

, enthused Paul Lang, director of the Museums of Strasbourg, during the presentation of

"this exceptional work for the history of art"

, attributed to Johannes Hültz.

Conserved away from light, in a dedicated room at the Musée de l'Œuvre Notre-Dame, it will be open to the public from January 21 to April 23, Saturday and Sunday afternoons only.
