Officers from the Anti-Triad Operation Team of Tai Po Police District launched an anti-crime operation in Sheung Shui District this afternoon (13th), raiding a unit on Xin Fung Road and smashing a suspected illegal mahjong gambling stall.
During the operation, officers arrested a 46-year-old female person in charge at the unit, suspected of "operating a gambling establishment".
Another five local men, aged between 62 and 81, were arrested on suspicion of "gambling in a gambling establishment".
During the operation, the police seized two electric mahjong tables, 4 sets of mahjong, a batch of furniture and about 840 yuan in cash in the unit.
The 46-year-old woman in charge has been charged with one count of "operating a gambling establishment", and the five local men have each been charged with one count of "gambling in a gambling establishment". The case will be judged in Fanling on February 13 Court appearance.

According to the "Gambling Ordinance" Chapter 148 of the Laws of Hong Kong, "operating a gambling establishment" and "gambling in a gambling establishment" are serious crimes. The former is liable to a maximum fine of 5 million yuan and imprisonment for 7 years, and the latter is liable to a maximum fine of 3 RMB 10,000 and imprisonment for 9 months.
