A man, Massimo Lo Prete, aged 50, was killed tonight, after 11pm, in an ambush carried out in a petrol station on highway 18, in Gioia Tauro.
The victim, according to an initial reconstruction made by the carabinieri of the Gioia Tauro Group who intervened on the spot, had stopped at the petrol station to get petrol in his Fiat Panda car, when someone fired shots at him, probably a pistol .
The car with the victim's body inside was found parked near the petrol pump.
Lo Prete, already known to the police for drug-related crimes, ran a car rental business.
The carabinieri are now trying to recover the images of the video surveillance systems in the area and also inside the vending machine.
From the images, the investigators hope to be able to reconstruct the methods of the crime and, above all, trace the identity of the murderer.
