The Turkish government has reacted furiously to an Erdogan doll that was hung upside down in Stockholm.

Ankara calls in the Swedish ambassador.

Ankara - Tensions are increasing again between Sweden and Turkey.

The Swedish ambassador in Ankara, Staffan Herrström, was appointed to the foreign ministry.

In addition, the visit of the Swedish Parliament President Andreas Norlen on January 17 was canceled by his Turkish counterpart Mustafa Şentop.

The reason for this are protests near the city hall directed against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his AKP government.

Turkey accuses protesters of terrorism

“The PKK and YPG are laying mines on Sweden's path to NATO membership.

It is now up to Sweden whether it clears these mines or knowingly steps on them," said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Thursday evening - blaming the banned Kurdish Workers' Party PKK and the Syrian Kurdish militia YPG, which Ankara sees as an offshoot of the PKK.

The communications director of the Turkish Presidential Office made a similar statement.

“We condemn in the strongest terms that members of the terrorist organization PKK in Sweden have targeted Turkey and its democratically elected President.

We urge the Swedish authorities to take the necessary steps against terrorist groups without delay."

Swedish foreign minister condemns protest action in Stockholm

The Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström also got involved in the discussion and condemned the protests in the Swedish capital.

“The government is committed to open debate on political decisions, but firmly rejects threats and hatred against political representatives.

The depiction of an executed President-elect in front of City Hall is regrettable,” Billström tweeted.

Behind the protest action is apparently a Swedish organization that describes itself as "a network for solidarity and exchange with the revolutionary movement throughout Kurdistan".

Sweden and Finland applied for NATO membership in May 2022.

However, the process is currently being blocked by Turkey.

Turkey accuses Sweden of supporting terrorist organizations

The Erdogan government accuses Sweden of not taking decisive action against people and groups that Ankara calls "terrorist".

Ankara is also demanding the extradition of several people of Turkish origin, including several journalists.

The Swedish government had recently rejected Erdogan's demands.

Turkey has "demands that we cannot and do not want to meet," Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said at a security and defense conference last Sunday in Sälen in western Sweden.
