Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Erwani, affirmed that the illegal unilateral measures pursued by the United States against independent member states of the United Nations, including Iran, weaken the rule of law and violate the Charter of the United Nations.
Erwani said in a speech during a meeting of the Security Council entitled “Promoting and strengthening the rule of law in maintaining international peace and security”: The rule of law is necessary to maintain peace and security, and because it enhances the ability to stability and justice in the application of an international legal system.
And Erwani continued: With regard to the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, Washington's illegal actions will have a destructive impact on international peace and security, and this is particularly evident in the Middle East, where the Security Council has failed to take effective measures to address the ongoing crimes and human rights violations committed by it. The Israeli entity in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the continuous violation of United Nations resolutions and international law, in addition to the failure of the Council to deal with acts of aggression and occupation in violation of the territorial integrity of Syria.
Erwani stressed that in order to strengthen the rule of law, all member states must abide by their obligations under international law and the Charter of the United Nations, as well as international treaties and agreements, use diplomatic tools, and dialogue to resolve and settle disputes by peaceful means, and cooperate with other countries to find solutions based on the laws and principles of peace and security. internationals.
