The market town of Isen is launching an offer together with the Erding car sharing association.

It starts with a Fiat 500 L – a petrol engine.

Isen

– In cooperation with the Erding car-sharing association, the Isen market will in future offer its citizens the opportunity to use a stationary vehicle.

The municipality bears the total monthly costs for the car, including financing, service, maintenance and insurance, up to a maximum of 800 euros.

The cooperation is initially limited to three years.

Tobias List and Stefan Treffler from the Carsharing Association presented their concept to the municipal councils on Tuesday.

"We would be happy to establish car sharing in Isen as well," they emphasized.

Founded in 2015 as a non-profit company with one car, the association now has five car-sharing vehicles in the urban area of Erding.

As in Erding, you have to become a member in Isen in order to be able to use the car.

The member's family members may also drive the car.

In addition to a registration fee of 50 euros, there is a monthly fee of six euros, only the rental price per hour (1.60 euros during the day, 0.60 euros at night) and the price per kilometer (up to 300 kilometers 35 cents, more 28 cents).

The fuel consumed is included in the price.

At the suggestion of the town hall, the initiators have already contacted the two Isen car dealerships.

Only Fiat Spielberger had expressed interest in the project, which is why the provisional choice fell on a used Fiat 500 L four-door, List explained.

Mayor Irmgard Hibler justified the decision to go with a petrol engine – an electric car had originally been considered – by pointing out that in Isen there is only one parking space with a charging station on the parking deck of the town hall.

A permanent parking space for the vehicle has already been found: It is to be parked on a public parking space at the corner of Pfarrgasse and Münchner Straße (Elektro Baumann) that is specially equipped with a traffic sign and floor markings.

Ten paying members are required per car, Treffler replied to the question from Deputy Mayor Michael Feuerer (CSU).

They are well aware that it is "easier to serve 150 users with five cars than ten with one car," explained the Erdinger carsharer.

Because the smaller the municipality and the more suboptimal the public transport connection, the more frequently the situation arises “that a car would be important for several users at the same time”.

List and Treffler therefore saw no possibility in Lorenz Liebl's (Mittbach-Liste) suggestion of using a possible profit to counter-finance the subsidy from the market town.

"If we are so successful that we make a profit before three years, then we will buy a second car very quickly," say List and Treffler.

The offer is primarily aimed at a “target group that can save themselves a second car,” said the mayor.

Since it "takes a little while" for the Isen car sharing service to get around, and people are beginning to "think about alternatives to a second or third car", List suggested starting the project without a demand inquiry.

The municipality had actually planned this before the start in order to find enough people to join the association.

The municipal councils of the Greens also advocated starting car sharing without a query.

"The need is there," said Florian Geiger with certainty.

He saw the opportunity in the project "to be able to have three or four cars in a few years".

The majority of the municipal councils spoke out against a demand survey.

There were other opinions, especially in the CSU and the SPD.

Michael Kunze (SPD) was against car sharing without a demand query for cost reasons.

"If only three people take part, I'm not for it," he said.

Kunze and his parliamentary colleague Gerhard Aimer-Kollroß also stood by their rejection in the vote on the future parking space.

When it comes to marketing, Treffler and List rely on public relations and, as a special treat, on a reduced registration fee during the first four weeks.

"We won the most members by addressing them directly," reported treasurer Treffler.

That is why the project is to be presented in March at the farmers' market spring festival and at the Kreuzmarkt in May.

Not only members are wanted, a car attendant on site is also necessary.

He should primarily take care of the tire pressure and oil level and regularly inspect the car for damage.

Like everyone in the association, he works on a voluntary basis, but does not have to pay a monthly fee.

Hans Angermaier (Mittbach list) made a suggestion for cost minimization.

You should ask Auto Spielberger if they want to put self-advertising on the vehicle.

Michael Betz (FW) wanted to know whether the municipality could afford the budget without the intervention of the supervisory authority.

"The issue can be justified," reassured managing director Christine Pettinger.

After all, the municipal co-payment for the bus routes is about the same.
