The possibility of fishing on foot in the Traict du Croisic (Loire-Atlantique) was short-lived.
Suspended since December 23, it was authorized again since January 4.
A week later, it is still prohibited by the prefecture, which issued an order to this effect on Thursday.
The fault is the presence of a norovirus - detected in the shellfish after analyzes - which caused digestive disorders,
"of the gastroenteritis type in consumers",
indicates the authorities.

Professionals working in the sector - areas 44.03 Traict de Pen Bé and 44.03.03 Traict de Pen Bé Sud - are also affected by this measure.
Since January 12, they have been prohibited from
“fishing, collecting, transporting, purifying, shipping, storing, distributing, marketing and making shellfish available to humans”
from the areas concerned.
Anger of professional fishermen
"Consumers are advised not to ingest and destroy shellfish from prohibited areas that may still be in their possession
," adds the prefecture.
Indeed, filter-feeding shellfish,
“regardless of their species”
, which have been harvested or fished in prohibited areas are considered
“dangerous”
.
As for the operators who marketed these shellfish, they are asked
"to immediately initiate their withdrawal from the market, or even their recall"
.

Concerned by the prefectural decree, the professional fishermen of the area, one of the largest cockle farming sites in France which generate nearly eight million euros in turnover each year for a dozen companies , are angry.
In particular, they point the finger at the sewage system subject to overflows during heavy rainfall.
