He did it through his social networks with a post for the world day of the fight against the disease.

On the World Day for the Fight against Depression,

María Eugenia Vidal

shared a thoughtful message on her social networks and told for the first time that she

suffered from the disease

during her youth.

It was through a post on Instagram that the Juntos por el Cambio representative surprised her followers by posting an image of herself at the age of 20 along with a text in which she revealed a part of her story that was still unknown.

Without turning around or any elaborate introduction, the legislator went straight to the point and said:

"I also had depression," she admitted.

"At 20, I was experiencing such deep sadness that

I felt like I was in a cesspool with no way out.

I tried, but I couldn't get over it on my own. It was my parents who noticed that something was wrong, that I wasn't the same. They understood me and accompanied me in treatment. Thanks to my family, I got ahead," he added, giving details of how he felt when going through the disease.

In the middle of his publication, he also took the opportunity to give statistics on the number of people affected by depression in Argentina and give more visibility to mental health and the importance of accompanying patients.

"1 in 3 Argentines suffers from a mental health problem at some stage of their life. Many, right? However, even today there are people who think that it is a "weakness" that must be hidden," he said.

And he added: "I'm not going to lie to you, even I, out of shame and fear,

felt that I had to hide that stage of my life.

But over time I learned that the worst thing about depression is feeling alien, different and alone, that's why I started to talk about it, to say that you can get ahead, that there are millions of people who overcame it and were happy".

Towards the end of the text, which received thousands of "likes" and comments, he mentioned the Mental Health Law, which patients and relatives urgently ask to modify.

"Today I do justice to the fears of that 20-year-old María Eugenia, fighting for the Mental Health Law. We can all add from our place, if you have a friend or family member who suffers the same thing, accompany him, do not judge him, encourage him to seek Help, be patient and above all don't be indifferent. You can make a difference," Vidal highlighted on Instagram.

Finally he concluded: "You can get out. To speak is to prevent."

The post of María Eugenia Vidal about the criticism of her body

This is not the first time that the deputy takes advantage of her social networks to spread a message to the community on issues that affect a large part of society.

As now, in March he made a publication for World Obesity Day in which he pointed out that he has "problems" with his weight since he was a teenager and referred to the negative impact that comments about his size generate in the years he has been in politics.

"This is my body over the years. In many stages, I had ups and downs in my weight, linked to what I was experiencing, which were reflected in my health. It is not only the weight that marked me on the scale, but also It is how I felt and how they gave me the tests, for example, cholesterol," he began to write in his post.

"During the last campaign, on many occasions, I noticed that the focus was not on what was important, but that the discussion was about how many sizes I had increased, if the shirt was too tight or if those pants did not favor me," Vidal said about the negative comments he received last year in the middle of the electoral campaign when he headed the list of Buenos Aires deputies for Juntos.
