After the decision of the Federal Ministry of Health to end the obligation to wear masks in long-distance transport, mouth and nose protection will no longer have to be worn on buses and trains in Rhineland-Palatinate from February 2nd.
"It was always clear to us that the federal government's fundamental decision applies and that Rhineland-Palatinate will support it as long as it remains valid," said Minister of Health Clemens Hoch (SPD) on Friday in Mainz.
Mainz – In line with the decision of the federal government, Rhineland-Palatinate is therefore lifting the mask requirement in public transport on February 2nd.
"The further steps will also be taken in close coordination with my Hessian counterpart," added Hoch.
Both federal states wanted uniform rules to exist.
Hesse also announced on Friday that masks would be compulsory on public buses and trains from February 2nd.
The federal government's decision is to be welcomed in view of the current development and the "noticeable transition to the endemic situation", said Hoch.
Both the corona incidence and infections in other respiratory diseases are declining.
The state investigation office recently determined an incidence of 99.7 registered corona cases per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.
The hospitalization incidence was 5.07 hospital admissions of Covid patients within one week per 100,000 inhabitants.
