After the Corona crisis, aviation is recovering - and the burden on people on the ground is increasing.

Resistance is now forming in the northern district of Freising.

Northern district of Freising

– Citizens in the north of the district view the development at the airport with concern: the increasing number of flight movements after the Corona crisis and the more frequent occurrence of easterly winds caused by climate change are likely to increase the burden on the northern district.

Stefan Neumann from Attenkirchen, who initiated the (still) loose association of citizens, now wants to "shake people up", as he says.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

He relies on the merger of several communities.

Attenkirchen, Au, Kirchdorf, Langenbach and Zolling - citizens from these communities are concerned about the situation at the MUC.

They are convinced that it is time to “again get more actively involved in combating the pollution caused by the overflight in our region”.

Above all, because of the new DHL gateway, there is a risk that freight capacities at the airport will be increased.

The result: more night flights.

Citizens demand reassessment

The goals that have now been taken up are, on the one hand, the reassessment of the burden on the region due to the overflights, on the other hand, a nationwide ban on night flights between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and, thirdly, an annual slot reduction through the expansion of long-distance rail traffic.

Neumann and his fellow campaigners are of the opinion that the necessary improvements can only be achieved together and that it is not very effective if individual citizens' initiatives in the communities get involved.

Neumann currently sees the Aufgemuckt action alliance, which is an amalgamation of numerous citizens' initiatives, more as an organization fighting against the third runway.

And the aircraft noise commission, in which most district municipalities are represented, is more like a toothless tiger.

“Arouse awareness and interest”

Stefan Neumann does not yet know exactly what the merger of citizens from the above-mentioned communities in the north of the district should look like, it is still "unclear how we will tackle it".

The first thing to do now is to “raise awareness and interest among the citizens”.
