Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded today (Friday) to the speech of Supreme Court President Esther Hayut and defended the legal revolution promoted by Justice Minister Yariv Levin.
"Even after the reform there will be a balance between the three authorities in Israel," he said.
In the video published by Netanyahu, he claimed that a large majority of the public chose and agreed that there is a need to make corrections to the judicial system and law enforcement.
This is after the harsh criticism leveled yesterday by the President of the Supreme Court on the reform that Justice Minister Yariv Levin is seeking to pass, and attacked all its details.
"I suggest to everyone to calm down and enter into a substantive discussion," Netanyahu said.
"When you say that the smallest correction is the destruction of democracy, it is not only a false argument - it is also an argument that does not allow for the possibility of reaching the understandings that should be reached in substantive discussions in the Israeli Knesset. I want to reassure you. Democracy is built on a proper balance between the three authorities and this balance exists in all democracies in the world , it also took place in Israel in its first fifty years. So there was no democracy here?"
He later emphasized that the amendments should be made with responsibility and discretion, while hearing all positions.
According to him, this is the process that will happen in the Knesset.
He concludes the video by saying that the reform will protect minority rights, democracy and its benefit is all the citizens of Israel.

After his response, opposition leader Yair Lapid published in a post: "Netanyahu, you did not receive a mandate from the public to destroy democracy and the majority of the public in Israel, including Likud voters, are opposed to a hasty and destructive reform based on the fact that you are too weak to deal with the extremists in your government."
Supreme Court President Hayut criticized the reform last night when she claimed that it was "a bridle attack on the judicial system, as if it were an enemy that must be attacked and subdued."
She also said that "Cynically, the people behind the plan call it a plan to 'correct' the judicial system. I say - it is a plan to crush it. It is designed to deal a fatal blow to the independence and independence of the judiciary and turn it into a silent authority."
