The second life of the Erlanger school, evoked and designed by Paris Habitat for more than a decade, will only remain at the project stage.
The school in the 16th arrondissement was, according to plans that
Le Figaro
had been able to consult in September 2018, to be rebuilt and accommodate sixty-five social housing units, a boarding house, commercial premises and parking.
If this new architecture had caused a certain stir at the time, it will not finally see the light of day.
At the time, Anne Kerouedan, president of the association "Erlanger environnement notre école pour matin", feared in particular that
"the children
would find themselves in a school-prison"
and that
"they
(virtually)
never see the sun" .
On January 13, 2023, the Council of State settled the dispute between Paris Habitat and the "association for the preservation of the district of rue Erlanger".
The highest administrative court in the country considered that the new organization of the establishment did not have
an "innovative character
" and did
"not meet the requirements of insertion into the existing urban fabric".
By its decision, the city of Paris and Paris Habitat are ordered to pay 3,000 euros to the association mentioned above for irrecoverable costs.
In addition, the appeals of the latter against the same judgment of the administrative court of Paris of January 2021 are rejected.
This had already canceled the decree of December 2018 granting the town hall of Paris
“a building permit for the construction of a real estate complex”
.

According to the initial project, the houses were located above the school.
And the playground was to be surrounded by three buildings, protected by a kind of metal net.
The whole had then led to a lively controversy among residents of the district but also within the Parisian political class.
If the town hall of Paris fully supported the project, the right was headwind against it.
