The well-intentioned banana bread gesture of a student in Berlin amused many Instagram users – because it backfired.

She revealed details to our editors.

Update from July 27, 2022:

The banana bread breakdown of the then 22-year-old student Sarah made waves on the internet: After moving in, she gave the neighbors delicious pastries and announced them on the notice board.

A little later she had to add a few sentences: Caution, please use with caution!

It could be glass or plastic inside!

Now the old note is getting new attention.

Because the Instagram page "Notes Of Berlin" posted it again for its 384,000 followers.

The result was more than 2,500 likes in the first 21 hours.

And many are likely to see the photo for the first time.

"The gesture counts" and "product recall", it says in the comments.

Another follower writes: “A special kind of recall. But yes, the gesture counts.

The question is how plastic or glass got in there.” And: “Super nice idea, but then you come home after a trip and first find moldy, old banana bread in the mailbox.”

In 2019, our editors were able to contact the Sarah who made the mistake - you can read how she explained it in our original article below.

Banana bread breakdown: student gives away pastries - but then it gets uncomfortable

Update from August 30, 2019:

The little glitch of the student Sarah (22) recently amused many on Instagram.

The student from Cologne had just moved into a new apartment in Berlin and wanted to make herself known to her neighbors by putting a piece of banana bread in everyone's mailbox.

The shock followed immediately: when the pastry was already in the mailbox, she noticed a piece of plastic or glass in her own sample.

Therefore the bizarre PS followed on the soooo nice notice.

The note “Gesamtkunstwerk” then became public on the well-known Instagram page Notes Of Berlin.

The Ippen-Digital central editorial office has now located that Sarah.

She can prove that it is the "real" one with a photo of the label of origin.

She's still very amused and she's not alone.

"Well, my friends thought it was pretty funny," she reveals.

The photo also shows what the note looked like without an addendum - and the banana bread.

This is what the banana bread and note looked like before the pastries ended up in the mailboxes.

The neighbors are all still alive, in excellent health, and nobody has choked on a piece of glass.

"When I wrote the addendum, nobody had taken out the bread beforehand, so everything went well," she says with relief.

And the campaign, which was definitely well-intentioned and totally nice, was also well received by her neighbors.

"A neighbor wrote me a card and thanked me for the nice gesture," reveals Sarah.

In this respect, their action is definitely recommended for imitation - as long as no unwanted ingredients are "baked in".

Banana bread debacle in Berlin: woman anonymously gives neighbors pastries – then it happens

Our article from August 16, 2019:

Berlin - Anyone who has found a new place to stay usually wants to ensure peace with the other residents of the house.

This was also the thought of this young woman, who meant well with her neighbors in Berlin.

After moving into an apartment in the capital, the lady apparently wanted to make herself popular with her baking skills.

It was only when there was no turning back from the well-intentioned gesture that she realized she had made a big mistake.

This emerges from an Instagram post.

It cannot be said with absolute certainty that this is not a fake - but everything looks authentic.

Berlin: 22-year-old bakes and distributes dangerous banana bread to neighbors

Sarah actually wants to introduce herself to the neighbors in person.

But the 22-year-old can't manage to ring every doorbell in the house and shake hands.

However, their arrival should not go unnoticed.

Without further ado, the young lady bakes a lot of banana bread in her apartment on the 3rd floor.

Sarah then divides her baked goods into small portions and puts them in the mailboxes of the apartment building.

"As a little 'Hello, I'm glad to meet you', you'll find some homemade banana bread in your mailboxes," the 22-year-old writes on the accompanying note.

She hopes it tastes good, the woman lets her neighbors know.

Woman gives away banana bread to new neighbors in Berlin - but then the shock follows

While the original text is written in black felt-tip pen, a few lines scrawled in blue ballpoint pen stand out at the end of the letter.

After trying her banana bread herself, Sarah had to add to her message to the neighbors:

"!!!

Small addendum: I found a piece of plastic or glass, but I don't know where it came from and I can't get the other pieces out of your mailboxes.

So be careful or don't enjoy it at all!

Sorry."

Berlin: A surprise lurks in banana bread

The unusual letter that hung next to the mailboxes in Sarah's new apartment building is now circulating on the internet.

A Berliner had posted it on his Instagram account.

Under the photo he writes: "Warning, update!" With a siren emoji.

The events in the now very detailed comment column become particularly interesting when the baker intervenes herself.

Sarah became aware of the fame of her defective banana bread and is now apparently defending her baking on Instagram: A user who claims to be THE Sarah with the banana bread comments: "I'm Sarah and I baked the banana bread... it was actually good anyway "The other Instagram users are excited about how the story gets a new twist: "How she just reports here." Or "I like Sarah," it says under the post.

Another user jokingly asks if no one died from the bread.

Sarah then gives the all-clear for the banana bread friends: "No, I warned you in good time." The banana bread almost fiasco in Berlin just went well again.
