The government redoubles its attack on Justice with a package of extraordinary projects

2023-01-13T17:38:48.727Z

It included 27 themes. In addition to the political trial, the project to expand the Court and the reform of the Council of the Magistracy.

Finally, President Alberto Fernández convened extraordinary sessions -from January 23 to February 28-

with a list of 27 topics.

He not only incorporated the request for Impeachment to the Supreme Court, but he doubled the bet and added the expansion of the Highest Court and the Reform of the Council of the Magistracy.

Among the matters that he sent, it is noteworthy that he once again insists that the appointment of the Prosecutor be discussed.

Fernández sent the document of his candidate, Judge Daniel Rafecas, to the Senate in March 2020 and it never advanced.

Not only because to approve it, the ruling party needs two thirds of the votes - that is, yes or yes, the endorsement of at least part of Together for Change - but also because Kirchnerism

did not even open the debate in the Agreements committee, chaired by the camporista Anabel Fernández Sagasti.

The chances of these issues moving forward

are virtually nil.

From Together for Change they had already advanced that they would not give a quorum to discuss any issue while the Frente de Todos decided to move forward with the impeachment of the Court.

Once this agenda is known, they reaffirm their position and deepen their criticism.

"It is not very serious. It is a government in limbo, out of reality. The president launches into the campaign after opening an institutional crisis and sends projects that he knows he does not have the numbers to approve," said the head of the radical bench , Mario Negri, to

Clarín

.

In the opposition they consider that these are actions that make the "story" of the ruling party and that Fernández includes these issues to "ingratiate himself" with his vice Cristina Kirchner.

From the Government, the spokeswoman Gabriela Cerruti pointed out that "the agenda is important and extensive enough for the opposition to understand that in the free democratic game you have to sit down to debate in Congress."

In turn, she accused the opposition of trying to "extort money from the government or society by only dealing with issues that interest them."

They did not even include the Rental Law, they retort in the opposition.

This is an issue that has been affecting both tenants and real estate agents and although there are different views among the deputies, they all agree that it should be reviewed.

controversial projects

Meanwhile, the Political Trial project has not yet entered the Chamber of Deputies.

Although the president promotes it together with 11 governors, it is the deputies of the Frente de Todos who are in charge of drafting and presenting it, in the next few hours.

As is already known, the ruling party has a tight majority in the commission that must deal with it, with which it can open the debate and even rule on the project.

However, he does not have a chance to approve it in the precinct because he needs two thirds of the votes.

The other two bills, although they have half the approval of the Senate - where Cristina Kirchner has a guaranteed majority with faithful allies - do not have the possibility of advancing in the Deputies either.

The modification of the Council of the Magistracy was approved in April 2022 in the Upper House.

The bill increases the members of the Judicial Council from 13 to 17 and does not include any representative of the Supreme Court.

In Deputies, although the debate in commissions began with the presentation of specialists,

it got stuck and they never managed to issue an opinion.

The expansion of the Court, which was approved in September 2022 in the Senate, brings the number of judges to 15 and has not even begun to be debated in committees in the Lower House.

Rafecas' statement is a surprise.

He has been sleeping the sleep of the just for almost three years.

Why is the President refloating it now?

Either Fernández sends it to say that the opposition did not give him the votes to approve it, or it is a call to action for his vice president, Cristina Kirchner, who never enabled the treatment in the Senate.

In Together for Change, voices had even emerged, like Elisa Carrió's, proposing to approve it.

Even so, the pro-government senator Sagasti did not start the process in the Agreements committee to call to expose the candidate, Daniel Rafecas and submit her statement to debate.

The agenda includes another 23 issues, among them, laws requested by the Minister of Economy Sergio Massa, such as money laundering, the anti-laundering law and the reform of INDEC.

Last year Fernández had sent a list of extraordinary songs with 18 songs.

None were treated.
