the unthinkable

Washington's assault was not just a scare, it set a model to be followed afterwards. But you also have to look before, how it came to that. It is one more point in a chain of events, not the first

We have spent a few years in which the unthinkable has become frequent.

Who was going to tell you that reggaeton was really going to be taken for a piece of music, or that you were going to see a Super Cup in Arabia.

Or a global pandemic, or a war in Europe.

But the unthinkable is of course no longer that a mob of dangerous clowns storm a parliament.

We had seen Brazil before.

One of the most insightful accounts I've read of what happened in January 2021 in Washington is from Congressman Jamie B. Raskin, in a book titled

The Unthinkable.

, published in Spain by the Berg Institute.

The unthinkable fell upon this man, designated as the nicest in the House, in a devastating way: on December 31, 2020, his 25-year-old son committed suicide, and on January 6, 2021 he was in the Capitol.

His world fell apart in a week.

Everything he believed in.

In his story, the two experiences intersect beautifully, and how the memory of his son, a brilliant young man passionate about politics with a depression that aggravated confinement, made him fight for the future of his country.

He later led the Democratic team for Trump's second

impeachment

and the congressional investigative committee into the assault.

Raskin, a professor of constitutional law, did not believe much in the illuminati.

In an appearance to defend gay marriage, she responded this way to a Republican who told her that her Bible said that marriage is only between a man and a woman: “Senator, when you took the oath of office, you put your hand on the Bible and swore to defend the Constitution.

She did not put her hand on the Constitution and swore to uphold the Bible."

We already see that the Washington assault was not just a scare, it set a model to be followed later.

But you also have to look before, how it came to that.

Because it was based on warming people's heads, it is one more point in a chain of events, not the first.

And perhaps the assault on Brasilia will not be the last.

You can simply refine the model.

Hitler's 1923 coup also went wrong and thought of something more sophisticated, ten years later.

If I were an unscrupulous politician, a convinced fascist or one of those morons who break into parliament and lounge in an office to take photos, I'd be thinking about how to do better next time.

The Washington thing didn't come out of nowhere.

If you remember, in March 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, Trump attacked the governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, for her restrictions on her population.

In April he got tired of calling for freedom and tweeted, in all caps: "Free Michigan."

And two weeks later a group of armed madmen entered the capitol of that State.

Trump condemned it?

No, he tweeted: “Michigan Governor should back down a bit and put out the fire.

These people are very good, but they are angry.”

In October, the FBI arrested 13 men accused of conspiring to kidnap the governor and kill her.

What Trump tweeted in January after the assault on Washington was: “Go home.

we love you

You are very special."

The unthinkable, two years later, is that Trump is not finished politically,

You can be a candidate for the 2024 elections and your party has not thrown you out.

Something that on January 6 seemed unthinkable to us, was the other way around: he gave him points.

That's what I meant, keep racking up points, we'll see more awesome stuff.

That is why it is important to be clear about what anyone who copies these tactics is playing, also in Spain.

That anything that looks like this we already know where it ends.

Although it seems unthinkable.
