Planning has been going on for five years, and now the time has come: The Planegg volunteer fire brigade is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2023.

And that's better spread out over five dates throughout the year than concentrated in one festival week.

Planegg

– Founded in 1873, the Planegger fire brigade is the oldest in the Würmtal.

It is well positioned for the anniversary year.

With 116 active members, 17 of whom are women, and a total of around 150 members, it has no personnel worries.

This is also ensured by the youth group, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020.

Strong youth group

"We were all in the youth group," said the club's chairman, Josef Reithmeier, in a press conference in the town hall about the management team of the fire brigade.

The youth department was founded by Peter Heizer, the father of commander Martin Heizer.

At the moment there are 26 boys and girls in the youth.

"That's at the upper limit," says Martin Heizer.

In order to be able to practice properly, the group was split up.

Every 14 days, one half comes to the fire station on Tuesdays and the other half on Wednesdays.

Four more young people want to join soon.

"If a fire brigade has been involved in youth work for many years, it has fewer problems with the active people."

It is more difficult with the lack of affordable housing in the Würmtal.

The release from the employer, however, works perfectly in Planegg.

The commander himself works like five other firefighters in the Steinkirchen business park for the pharmaceutical wholesaler Sanacorp.

"The disaster in the Ahr Valley showed how important it is to be released from work by the employer," said fire brigade spokesman Mathias Singer.

In early summer 2021, a total of around 20 Planeggers drove to the devastated Ahr Valley with a fire engine and roll-off tipper with decontamination container to provide help there for days.

Waiver of marquee

At that time there had been considerations for a long time about how to celebrate the 150th anniversary.

“The planning has been going on for five years.

We got off to a good start a year and a half ago,” says Chairman Reithmeier.

The management team let the team decide in autumn 2021 and gave preference to these several dates spread over the year.

The waiver of a festival week with a marquee minimizes the financial risk.

It starts in just under a month: on Saturday, March 11th, a festive evening with invited guests will take place in the Kupferhaus.

A standing reception is planned, at which, among others, Mayor Hermann Nafziger, patron of the anniversary, and Munich District Administrator Christoph Göbel will speak greetings.

Delegations of the fire brigades from the partner communities Bärenstein in Saxony and Klausen in South Tyrol have announced their arrival.

On Saturday, June 17, a fire brigade action day is scheduled on the open-air site at the Kupferhaus, which offers more space than the courtyard of the Planegger fire brigade equipment house.

"A kind of open day with a vehicle exhibition and children's program," said Reithmeier.

Other aid organizations have also announced themselves.

Party evening with the Blechblos'n

On Sunday, July 9th, what the firefighters have been waiting for for more than two and a half years will happen: During a festive service in St. Elisabeth, the three emergency firefighting vehicles that were delivered in the summer of 2020 and have been in service ever since will be consecrated.

In addition, a team transporter that was purchased in 2018.

Due to Corona, the consecration was pushed back.

After the service, a white sausage breakfast takes place on the market square.

A party evening with the Blechblos'n is coming up on Saturday, July 22, in the Kupferhaus.

The band was already part of the party when the fire brigade celebrated its 125th birthday in 1998.

And finally, the traditional Schafkopf race on Saturday, November 11th, is also open to the public in the anniversary year.

There are 80 places in the classroom in the fire station.

"One of the goals is to get into conversation with people at the events and maybe win new members," says Reithmeier.

The fire brigade does not currently have any worries about young people, but they do not want to leave a gap.
