At the Nordring in Otterfing there will soon be more space for digging and planks in the sand: TSV Otterfing is building a second beach volleyball court.

Otterfing

– German duos have already won Olympic gold, digging in the sand is trendy: beach volleyball has arrived as a popular sport in this country.

The volleyball division at TSV Otterfing is following this trend and wants to create a second beach volleyball field on the sports facility in the north ring.

There is space for this, but the orientation of the future two systems must be rotated by 90 degrees to north-south.

The previous system is oriented in an east-west direction.

Since the municipality leases the sports areas to the TSV, their basic approval of the project was now required - and the municipal council gave it in its most recent meeting without a dissenting vote.

"We want to make beach volleyball more attractive in Otterfing," says Julia Bretting, chairwoman of the TSV volleyball division.

A second place not only opens up more seasons, but is also a prerequisite for being able to host official tournaments.

The space required for this is provided by a previously unused strip between the existing beach volleyball court and the asphalt track for stick shooters.

According to Bretting, the strip was always reserved for a second floor track;

the stick shooters, however, had finally signaled that one lane was enough for them.

So the volleyball players grabbed it.

The additional space opens up the possibility of accommodating two spaces through a 90-degree rotation and a north-south orientation.

Structurally, this is associated with little effort, the head of the building department, Hubert Zellner, now explained to the municipal council.

"The fence will be moved south, and of course soil replacement will be necessary."

The planned expansion has been agreed with the stick shooters, who at the same time want to modernize their own track.

"It will be a construction site involving two divisions," announces volleyball division manager Bretting.

"It's good that the cooperation works," praised Andreas Eichhorn (SPD).

Beach volleyball is a sport with a future, and the expansion is understandable.

The division wants to raise the financing largely from its own resources.

For years, money had been put aside for a possible new sports center, explained Hubert Baldauf (Greens), municipal councilor and volleyball player himself, at the meeting.

However, since such a new building is not foreseeable, the intention is now to invest the reserves in a second beach volleyball court.

Bretting is also hoping for grants from the Bavarian State Sports Association.

“Is there an application for a grant coming up to the community?” Gerhard Heimerer (CSU) wanted to know.

That remains to be seen, said Mayor Michael Falkenhahn (SPD): "They want to bring in as much personal contribution as possible." The financial strength of the volleyball players is remarkable, said Ulrike Stockmeier (FLO, "the stick shooters are not that rich". It's great that both divisions are so worked well together.

According to Julia Bretting, the TSV volleyball division currently has around 90 members.

The second place should offer more playing opportunities and allow for growth.

The system is and remains at the disposal of the TSV, so it cannot be used by everyone at any time.

"We are also liable," says Bretting.

But they always have an open ear for inquiries - this also applies to other sports, for example when the footballers are planning a special goalkeeper training session in the sand.

The TSV volleyball players want to get cost estimates soon.

"We would like to put the second system into operation this year," says Bretting.
